Spare wheel, what to ask for and what they are worth

I have a 1969 long bed pickup that I'm converting to stock height 5 lug 71-72 setup. I have these wheels (picture). I understand they are 1975 and later truck ralley wheels. I think they are 15x6.5 and they have P275/60R15 tires.
I am looking for a 5th wheel that I can use as a spare.
Are plain wheels that would have originally came on 71-72 and later trucks common and easy to find? What do I ask for if posting a want to buy ad, what do they look like, what are typical widths and tire sizes to use, and how much should they be worth?

They could be a 15x6.5 or 15x7 or 15x8. I can't tell by picture. I cannot remember, but I think they may have the size stamped on the back of the wheel somewhere. I would imagine with the 275/60s they might be 8" wide or at least 7".

Not sure I'm clear on your plan. You are using the truck rallyes and want an OEM type spare and wondering if an OEM style, factory steelie, would be easier to find? That looks like maybe an 8" wheel. It may be easier to find a matching truck rallye wheel but either are pretty much the same to find. There was only one 15" wheel offered on a 2wd, 6" wide.

Re: Spare wheel, what to ask for and what they are worth

I measured through one of the holes from one side to the other and it is about 8.5 inches, so accounting for the metal thickness I think these are 15x8 inch wheels. I have 4 of them. My goal is to have a spare and I don't care if it matches. I just want to be prepared and self-sufficient on the road. Probably a 6 or 6.5 inch wide wheel will be fine. I plan to put the spare in the original spare tire holder up under the bed.

Rim widths are measured like in this pic but realize more difficult with tire mounted.

Re: Spare wheel, what to ask for and what they are worth

You would be fine with any width, 6-8" wheel. I guess which ever you find first will do. I bet you could find a single 8" rallye to have a spare matching wheel in case one gets damaged. That should still fit in the spare carrier.

Re: Spare wheel, what to ask for and what they are worth

Thanks, good information and I appreciate it. I put a want to buy ad in the parts section, no replies yet but I also see listings on eBay that may work out. I'll decide what to do in the next few days.

Re: Spare wheel, what to ask for and what they are worth

Had to read your post again to figure it out. A plain wheel for a spare shouldn't cost over 25.00 anywhere in the country if it is used. If you were here local I have two 15x8 wheels out back that are 5 on 5 that you could have. They came off an early 70's pickup and my wife bought them from a friend of mine who owned a wrecking yard to put studded snow tires on. That was around 1990 when she was driving a 79 Caprice ex cop car.
Point in case all of those old square Caprice cop cars had 5 on 5 x 15 wheels. Olds 98 rear wheel drive had 5 on 5. The Big Pontiac rear wheel drive had 5 on 5 wheels.

Meaning that you do not want to go out and pay extra because some clown says that a wheel is a "special chevy truck steel wheel".

Re: Spare wheel, what to ask for and what they are worth

15x6 and 15x7 have the center of the wheel at the rim edge, 15x8 has the center 1" back. Will post pictures later.

it has been my experience these are 6.5 or 7's

Re: Spare wheel, what to ask for and what they are worth

Thanks for the information folks. I ended up getting a 15x6.5 inch truck rallye wheel in fair condition from Outback Truck Parts for $40. I'm cleaning it up and will paint it and put one of my tires on it. I think it will make a good spare.
