How did you monitor your oil pressure before you started the engine the first time?

included in a folder with engine/transmission instructions and emission decal and tuning CD. I used a separate oil pressure sending unit from classic instruments that independently supplies their oil pressure gauge that I used in my dash. I disconnected the computer and fuel pump before cranking it as the instructions said, then after a couple of turns I had oil pressure of about 50 PSI. Then I reconnected the fuel pump only, powered the pump on without cranking and looked for leaks, then hooked up the computer and fired it up.

Re: Plus Five
Thanks I can do that!
I have a oil gauge screwed to the oil bypass on the side of the pan, but have not turned the engine over It did not say to pressure the system until the rocker arms have oil before turning the engine over? So with the starter motor only you have good oil pressure, did it come right up to 50# ?

It took only a couple of cranks of about 10 seconds to show oil pressure, and it was nearly 50 psi with just the starter cranking it, before we hooked it up to fire. My oil pressure sender is hooked up in the same spot as yours, at the bypass fitting near the oil filter.

Re: Plus Five
Just had to float this build back to the top in case anyone missed it. There is some of the nicest fab work I've seen in this build. If you have never looked through it all, treat yourself to it. Might make you feel a little inadequate as a fabricator, but you'll learn a thing or two dozen!

Re: Plus Five
I've been busy cleaning and packing up our house to sell it
and move to our new house we will be building. I have had a few hours here and there so I built some straps to help limit the door opening. Being five inches longer made it heavy enough that I was concerned about depending on just the upper door hinge pocket for the stop. The strap has heavy steel brackets behind the rocker panels and door cavities to carry the load. I had already welded in a hat channel into the back of the rocker panel so it is very strong. The strap I made from seat belt material. It seems to work pretty well in conjunction with the original stop. It doesn't have any stretch so I adjusted it to snug up just as the door reaches its travel limit. I just need to round all of the edges then paint it body color and it will be done.

Re: Plus Five
Wow time flies...
I've been busy moving to an apartment and lost track of time. We sold our house and found a nice new apartment. I haven't lived in an apartment since my wife and I were first married and we had a lot of crap to move! And put in storage! We will be building a new house for the next several months and then moving again. Hope to retire there in a few years. Probably good to be downsizing and building new, but it's a lot of work. I hope to get back to the truck soon. Thanks

After careful review of this thread it seems like the only logical thing to do is go outside and burn my shop down.

Re: Plus Five
Wow!!!!
Time really flies. I can’t believe it’s been almost two years. Sorry it’s been so long. Way more work to build a house than I thought, and most of it was contracted out. House is finally done. We moved in last August. I haven’t touched the truck since we started building, except to fire it up once in a while. Hope to be back on the truck this summer.

Re: Plus Five
Hi again to everyone.
I am slowly getting back on the truck. Spent most of September finishing the lawn around the new house. What a job. Here is the latest work on the truck. I installed the stainless steel bed “ boards “ and bed trim.

Re: Plus Five
I’ll try to get more posted in the next few months as I expect more time in the winter to work on the truck.
Thanks

Re: Plus Five
Started on the front end assembly.
We got the internal hood braces on, and installed the stainless center strip and Chevy emblem.

Re: Plus Five
These pieces were reproductions, and they worked very well.
The strip fit perfectly and the tabs aligned exactly. The emblem needed a little work on the back side to complete the bend of the rear flange but took only a couple of minutes with small hammer and bean bag. Also not shown, the “3100” side emblems worked great too. I did modify the pins that stick thru by threading them with a 10-32 die, and used nylon lock nuts to hold them on. I wanted them a little more secure than the slip on round clips.

Re: Plus Five
Got the hood, fenders and grill installed.
Gaps came out pretty good, after quite a bit of fussing.

Re: Plus Five
Man, love the door strap detail! Moved to an apartment?? Yikes. Swore those off many years ago. Building a house as we speak. Hope to sell old house and move to new house in one motion.

Re: Plus Five
In the apartment for about a year.
We are loving the new house now. Probably more so because of the apartment experience. Lots of time to work on the truck this winter.
