Ok, not sure of the color for the wrap, just got the sample of matte gold(looks more like gold leaf), wish i could find a sample of the original gold on the '68.Plus, the shinny gold seems to stick better, even without the primer....

Its hard to see the difference in the photo but i think you are right about the matte being more like gold leaf. I did not see a true matte in my color samples but you could also see if they can apply a matte laminate to the shiny gold. It would up your costs but it would protect the vinyl a bit better and it will make it easier to handle trying to install it (I think) I would ask the wrap guys their opinion on that. The only place I would reccomend using the primer is on concave curved areas such as the fender well arches and top side of the bed and doors that are concave. Any flat or convex areas should not need it. I have been told that even if you get it down good without using primer in these areaas that out in the sun it may loosen and lift away then once cold again it will contract and rip (worse case scenerio). Good luck with it.

Thanks for the advice Richard, didnt know you could add another laminate on top...just not happy with the matte finish, not trying to replicate the color of the anniversary exactly, but i would like to achieve a close proximinity to it, just to keep everyone guessing...
I may try to use the wifey on this part of the build, but sure if we could do it without a rip in the relationship  we had quite an arguement over just trying to fly a kite down the shore. Well see...

Picked up some parts today, NAPA got the brake adjuster kits in, and i got the wiper delay from twoovakind, should be sweet to have a delay in a light rain.... My plan is to mount it opposite of speed warning knob on bezel, by the light switch. Then make a nut like the speed warning nut, then put my extra rubber knob on the pot, should look symetrcal......
I dont mind paying a little more to support the local businesses, there are times when i need a part on a saturday, and they have it in stock. That being said, rock auto does have a better selection of varying quality of the same part  20130910_123827 by jarosaj, on Flickr

Been reading your build for a long time now lots of great info and show of patience man you have a lot. I really like the wood bed and way you takled everything on your build. I like the gloss gold wrap looks good in the pictures the matte look on wraps doesnt seem to look as good to me. Good luck and keep pushing foreward almost there. lots of good info here i think i need to re read already

Thanks Colorado for the kind words, i have to admit, there are times when i feel like im talking to myself. But, when guys like you post up, i feel like its all worth the effort, since it takes away from my build time.....
It really is my therapy, calms me down after a hard day. I should spend more time on each subject, but most of you guys know this stuff, and it is more directed to the young guys coming up into the hobby. I try to keep my comments short short and concise as yous guys only want look at pics Thanks for the comments on the bed, glad someone other than dale and i like it....i am leaning towards the glossy gold, just seems to fit better Thanks for watching

I also like the gloss, the gold pops better with the gloss . I have wood grain vinyl on my caprice station wagon, it has spent 20 yrs outside and only shows minor fading. This will probably hold up better than paint.

that 3-6 years is full time direct sunlight. i would assume you will still be garaging the blazer once done so it should last quite a bit longer if you need it to. the hood and tops of the fenders will be the quickest to fade because of the direct sunlight and the heat of the engine. To make it official instead of implied, yes i am more partial to the gloss

Not much happening today, slept in, this old body needs rest, but the cardiologist said yesterday that my heart is in fine shape Wanted to do something, sooooo, i bored out my speed warning knob to fit the pot. First bored a hole in pine to hold the knob from spinning, then bored the knob to 1/4". Now i just have to buy the 1/2" aluminum hexagon stock It works, enough tension to turn the pot on and off Thats good news John, cant wait to see pics  20130912_131120 by jarosaj, on Flickr

Recieved my 2 3/4" brakes from tkorieck yesterday, just got to sandblast and pull the axles. NAPA still carries the brake drums

Ive zoomed back over your last 10 pages or so. It appears you dont have power steering on this yet? Have you done any research on a hose that goes from metric pump to sae steering box yet?
Looks like I'm about to toss a whole tbi motor in mine. |

I'm getting a motor from a 95 tahoe more then likely (if he doesnt sell it in the next week). I plan on running that pump as mine leaks anyway. Maybe its sae? But I figured it would be metric.
I'm doing tBi, not tPi. Using whatever ecm came in the tahoe. I just need a motor that idles right, and doesnt need a tanker truck of oil to pace my side. It smokes 24/7 now

For those of you that dont have a blast cabinet, or you just cant hold on to small parts without blasting your glove (yeah, i know you could use pliers), apple cider vinegar does a masterful job of lifting the rust off of heavily rusted parts in about a day. If you cant wait, alittle scrubbing with a wire brush speeds it up a bit

You're doing a great job on this. You are taking your time but the details you have are outstanding. I'm more of a slap it together and get it done type and try to do the best I can at that pace. I have the determination to finish but lack the patience to make it great.
Love the gold.  My paint looks completely different in the sun but in the shade or non-direct lighting it is very close to the wrap color you have picked. Go glossy with the gold. The matte look just makes it look old and faded or weathered, which I don't think you will be happy with.
