New aluminazed hooker headers getting rusty

I am in my third year on the road on my frame off. I installed a new set of aluminzed hooker headers and they are starting to get surface rust. Is there any warranty on these things? Or is there Andy thing i can do to clean them up?

Thanks

Re: New aluminazed hooker headers getting rusty

I was not aware that hooker did aluminized headers....are they ceramic coated?
found this.....

Breaking in an engine with ceramic coated headers WILL result in damage to the coating and will VOID all warranties. Hooker recommends using cast iron exhaust manifolds or old headers during your engine break-in period to avoid damaging your coated damage. Please call Hooker tech service at 270-781-9741 for additional information regarding ceramic coated exhaust products. The use of header wraps can cause the header tubes to crack or rust due to excessive heat and moisture build-up. Hooker does not recommend the use of header wraps as this will void the warranty.

Re: New aluminazed hooker headers getting rusty

Agree on the break in. Paperwork came with the headers about breakin. I have a set of drag headers i used for breakin. I thought they were aluminized. I know they are something. How long is the normal warranty?

How does breaking a new engine in, harm the headers?

Re: New aluminazed hooker headers getting rusty

My understanding when you drive your truck you heat cycle the engine. When you break in you sit at a constant rpm for 20 min. Will burn the headers

I have used Hedman for years, just ordered these Headers, “Street, Full-Length, Steel, Silver Ceramic Coated, Chevy, GMC, 454, Pair” about 500 bucks.

Just a personal choice but I think Hedman makes a better product.

Re: New aluminazed hooker headers getting rusty

I have had 2 different sets of ceramic coated headers on 2 different vehicles and both started rusting within 2-3 years. Not worth the cost if you ask me, stainless is the only way to go if you want it to stay nice.

Re: New aluminazed hooker headers getting rusty

I have Hedman ceramic coated and they are all rusty. They are thick and heavy though so they won't actually rust through. The coating doesn't seem worth the extra cost to me. My next headers will be from Jet Hot just to try them but I still like my heavy Hedman's.
