Found a 68 Long Bed But…

Found this locally. Looks all original a 250 3sp column shift. I haven’t had a close look (inside of a fence) yet. Passenger rocker has a few spots and driver’s door box might be not good. Inside of the bed looks great from 10 feet. Seller said he’d entertain an informed offer. I was thinking that $6500 ought to be in the ballpark. Add some wheels and tires and address any mechanical needs. Dents are a disappointment but add some character.

Let him throw out the first price. I would not offer anywhere close to 65 for that one.

Re: Found a 68 Long Bed But…

I agree with post 2 AND 3...
There's an unwritten rules of selling and buying. NEVER throw out an offer to start the process, NEVER. Let the seller give you an idea iIF you can even afford whatever you are buying, first!!! Then in a proper and kind conversation (NOT saying anything negative about the seller or vehicle). work you way towards the price you can afford, STARTING at a point lower than what you are willing to pay.

All this can go out the window, depending on how much $$$ you have to start with or how little you have..

Re: Found a 68 Long Bed But…

Based off 1 picture, and that is never good. this truck was a $1500 truck a couple years ago. It is now a $2500 truck with how they have appreciated. Maybe a little more depending on what the cab and drivers side looks like. But not even close to 6k.Just my opinion.
Seems like complete trucks are now in the 2500 to 3500 range if not a rust bucket. And then highly option are going for more.

He threw out a number. It was unrealistic, but said he’d entertain less. Ironically, I stumbled on this 68 after looking at a grossly overpriced square body that supposedly was “all original, including paint, with minimal rust.”🙄

Re: Found a 68 Long Bed But…

I think you need some more details to have an informed discussion. The real cost of restoring these trucks is the rust repair. If you don't know ALL of the rust areas, you are gambling. You could put 10k into that truck and have a truck worth $10k.

I think that the real price is somewhere between $2k and $3.5k. Those dents don't bode well for how much care the truck has seen. This means you will be chasing deferred maintenance. At an $8500 starting price, I would forget about it and keep looking.

For that price point I would expect a straight truck with no dents and maybe no rust basically a nice survivor or one repaint. Especially as this is a LWB 250 3 speed truck.

I'm from the same general geographic area as you are, and man honestly I'd have to agree with the first few posts. $8500 is over the moon in my opinion. 6500 isnt even close, .. I'd be around $1500 - 2500 if it was super solid.

The same truck now . .. if it was a short bed, youd be closer to the ballpark. Maybe a block or so away in route to the ballpark. Lol..

Just my opinion. If you want it man, buy it. It's your money.

Re: Found a 68 Long Bed But…

I don't know where you guys are finding solid, complete trucks for $1500. If that one has rust in "the usual places", but not completely rotted and runs, I bet he'll get $3500 at least.

I don’t think most have bought anything lately Hard to say from just one picture but $3500 is a lot closer to reality.

I don’t know, I’m always looking. The truck isn’t a rust bucket and supposedly a runner. Things have gotten crazy in the last three or four years.

Spoken like someone who has actually been lookin’ and not just sippin’ shine and dreamin’. I don’t know what’s more ridiculous, the buyer wanting to pay $1200 or the seller wanting $8500. Both numbers are out of touch.

Is a 68 LWB what you're looking for? I'm in the area man, I'll be glad to help you find one for a lot less money. Any 67-72 is a cool truck but were just saying even at 6500 it's too much for this truck in this area. I drive for Jasper Engines and Transmissions and I'm around a LOT of shops, old back country roads, you name it.. I see these trucks sitting around. Well find you one. Just let me know what you're looking for.

While even here in the NE that truck is maybe a 6k truck on the high side . Anything that has a floor is hard to find . I dont know where you can find a good driver for less than 3k anymore. I turned down 2k for a rust free bed I bought this spring it's all location location location.

The true "right price" is whatever the buyer is willing to hand over in green wrinkly $100.00 bills , Whatever makes the buyer happy is all that matters . Everyone has their own deciding factors and what I see as a parts truck may be someones dream truck so to each their own . There is a huge price difference across the country and of course I would want to pay as little as possible because I'm thinking about the cost to bring it back all the way to what it was new or better and parts and paint ain't cheap even here in shine country .

Looks like the guy has been watching too much Barrett-Jackson, or priced it like that to show his wife he’s “Tryin to sell it”

Re: Found a 68 Long Bed But…

You just have to look for what you truly want. If it's a LWB, theres nothing wrong with that but realistically we all know the swb price would be different. Theyre still out there. I paid $6500 for this one, running and long distance drive ready. 67 original swb, step 6cyl 3ott. Original title, sales invoice, and documentation I am the second owner. It's by far the most solid one I've ever found in the south.

Just saying, it's very possible to find a nice one in this area for that kind of money. Just have patience. You'll find it. Marketplace isnt the place to look though. You have to dig, ride around the back roads and stuff. They're out there.

I'd say that the Mecum thursday/friday trucks are a much better buy than anything I've seen on craigslist/facebook for the past year. It is insane out there.
