The rear axle width is 57 inches flange to flange. Im planning on running 12 inch wheels.

I got front suspension all mounted up and fitted. The RideTech arms and Triple adjustible shocks are cool. The Rack and Pinion Kit from No Limit is killer!

Re: Smitty's 67 Build

Well I hate how poor these tailgate work. So I got a donor tailgate off a new Chevy truck and all the parts will work with some tweaking. I still have a few things to do but here are some pics.

The top hole is the factory hole. The bottom bolt is were the original strap mounted to I ground it down to the right height and drilled and taped it.

The strap bolt is in the original hole I need to make a pin.

I cut off the mount on the bottom of the donor tailgate and they fit right inside of the original. I sloted it open so it comes off like a new one and works super smooth.

Re: Smitty's 67 Build

The tailgate mod works great! You only have to pick up the handle 3/8 of a inch to realease it. The rear is all welded smoothed out and done.

Re: Smitty's 67 Build

Well one step foward two steps back. Pulled the motor out of the Black Gmc to put in this one and well its hurt. The super expensive torque converters billet ballooning plate did not work and wiped out the crank bearings. SO thank god my engine builder quick I droped it off for a emergancy bearingalagy.
Not good hopefully the billet crank makes it through surgery ok.

Re: Smitty's 67 Build

Thanks guys. The 16 hour days have started 32 day till it needs to be done. I was wrong on the engine the mains spun lack of oil, trap doors not doing a good enough job. Its time for a dry sump set up. As long as the cranks not cracked I will have it back by Friday.

Re: Smitty's 67 Build

Made some good progress today. Exhaust almost finished need to make a couple mounts yet. Started on the bed floor I think its going to look super clean with a touch of Race Truck. The fuel door and the dry sump tank will look cool. Just might have to add a Nos bottle to balance out the front of the bed

Re: Smitty's 67 Build

Tech tip for the day. We weld mandrel bent sections of pipe together to build the exhaust. The 3 inch wide band clamps work great to hold it in place as you go but a good trick is to cut open a couple clamps so you can tach your sections together. It makes it alot faster and easier to do.
