steering box question

I really dont think this flat spot on the bottom of my steering box from my 66 is right. The funny thing is my other steering box has the same flat spot. It looks like someone hit it with a hammer. The seal also is bent to match the flat spot. Is the box junk? I dont see how to install a seal now.028 by Daniel Crymes, on Flickr

Re: steering box question

The picture is the pitman arm side. I did not think it was right but funny how both my boxes have the same flat spot. Are they junk now?

Re: steering box question

Maybe shoot an email and your pic to Redhead Steering and see what they say.

Re: steering box question

Are these boxes easy to take apart or is it going to explode when I do

Re: steering box question

I can't say for sure this can be done, but a machine shop can bore it out to make it round if it isn't ovaled out of tolerance. They would also be able to flatten out the top. Both processes would be simple for an experienced shop. There's probably a few of places in your area, drop in with it and talk to them to see what they think and how much it would cost.
