Re: '67 step-side replacement rear bumper

It's been awhile since I've been on here and I found the link to your project and it looks really nice. I'm glad to see someone save another one of these old trucks. I saw a 69/70 on the back of another truck hauling a pile of cars a few years ago that had been crushed and it made me wanna cry. I love that color and the way you painted the instrument panel and glove box door. I'm planning on going with an orange on one of my trucks, probably the color Stacey David painted his '67 C-10 Copperhead or Plymouth/Chrysler Prowler Orange. You do really good work and can't wait to see the truck finished.

You can only imagine the number of decent old trucks (and cars) that get sent to the wreckers every year. Thankfully more and more of them are being salvaged and restored. With the condition my truck was in when I got it, if it had not been a '67 short-step, I might have passed on fixing it up. If you do a little looking you can still find plenty of nice trucks to start with for a great project.

Thank you for the complements, I can't wait to see it finished too!

Re: '67 step-side replacement rear bumper

I got most of the wiring figured out. (most...) You would think that I would have taken notes or taken pictures or something to help me remember what plugs into where. The only thing I am having trouble with is the HEI wiring. I can't remember what wires go to the starter and such. (I think elves came in this past year and screwed everthing up for me... damn elves) I'll figure it out, but I seem to be missing a wire to the starter. For the most part everything is in and seems to be working. Hope you all have a safe new year!

Yeah, elves usually are not helpful. At least I have not found any to be...

However I have found someone who is helpful. franciscocl7 posted some very nicely cad-drawn wiring diagrams on here for download. I think I can figure out what goes where now and get my truck finished up. I can't thank him and the others who took the time to put the info on here for all to use enough.

BTW... truck and new shop update. I towed ('sob'... wish it could have been driven...) to my new body shop building yesterday. The power gets switched on on Monday so we can get everything finished moved and get back to work. Truck should be on the road shortly afterward. Ill post some pics of the new shop soon.

Great work guys!

Re: '67 step-side replacement rear bumper

Hey guys, can anyone help???

I need to wire my wipers and I can't seem to figure out what color wire plugs into where. The wiring diagrams on here are no help and neither are the past threads I have read. The wiper motor I have looks different from the ones pictured on the threads so I included a pic. I have the standard colors that go to the wiper motor and pump.

I have two yellow plugs (wire color to the plug)
one black plug
one light blue plug
one dark blue plug

I only have four tabs to put the plugs so something seems missing. Tab 3 and 4 are connected

The wipers worked fine when I took the harness out and I have traced/tested the wires and they are not damaged.

My wipers are dual speed. Thanks for any help!

I'm not near my truck now but here's a ttt for you. You'd probably get a better response in the message board section.

Re: '67 step-side replacement rear bumper

I posed one in the electrical section but all is well. I found a link that explains what color wire does what and I kept plugging them in until I found the right combo. It works now. I was getting confused because my truck doesn't have a washer pump, or at least I can't find it.

After some thinking I decided to get a stock column automatic shifter. I found one out of a '72. This isn't being built as a hot rod, so I really don't need a floor shifter. As soon as I get the rear crossmenber in and steering column in my truck is off to get the tranny hooked up so I can start driving it!

I got my column automatic shifter today. I got even luckier when I saw that it was a tilt wheel as well. I'll get some pics of that on here soon.

Richard, just so you know a factory tilt for one of these trucks can be quite pricey.I have seen them go for $300.00 and more.So if you gave less SCORE!!!!

You guys will not believe how I got my tilt. The first one I found was from a wrecking yard. The one they sent me wasn't a tilt and was missing the shifting indicator, so I decided to send it back. Not long after that I was outside of my new body shop building when a guy who was driving by saw my '67 sitting outside when he stopped and asked me who owned it. He told me that he had a tilt for sale out of a '72 and he wanted $150.00 for it. Of course, I himed and hawed for a few seconds and said, "Well, I guess that's a fair price, I have been looking for a tilt for my truck..."

He ran back to his house and brought it up to me. It needs a little cleaning and a good goings-through, but otherwise it's in great shape. MAJOR SCORE!

Later guys, I will post some more pics once we have gotten the new body shop in order.

Re: '67 step-side replacement rear bumper

Hey all, just thought I would post some pics of the "new" 71 automatic tilt collumn I am starting to rebuild. It's a little rough, but can't complain for two reasons. 1) I actually found a factory automatic tilt, and 2) the price was WAY right. ($150.00)

I'll start working on it this weekend. I'll post pics once it's painted and in the truck.

I also wanted to post some pics of my new body shop. We are finially moved and back to work. Almost 4 weeks with out making any real money. Yuck! Hope you enjoy the pics of the shop.

Later for now, D

Rick, well, no I didn't personally have the shop built for me. A local builder (Sam Robinson) has several industrial buildings in Sutherlin and was putting up the frame for this one when we approched him with the idea of moving the body shop. He jumped on the idea and then finished the new building to our specs. He has been really awesome to work with, he will be a good landlord. My shop isn't quite "pimp-my-ride" but we are getting there!

Now I can get back to work on my stinking truck! BTW, I'm the goober in the plaid jacket helping hold the booth sides while we assembled it! The other two are my partners. Jake is on the ladder and Fred is holding the other side. I can't imagine two better guys to work with every day.

Hey Rick, hope everything is going well for you. Thanks for your support! I really wanna see your truck get finished soon! (no pressure! LOL)

Prowler Orange looks brown, Kind of a s*%t color. I did a test panel for my '02 t/a and didn't like it.

The effie is a '53 and belongs to one of my partners, Fred. His 20th wedding anniversary is comming up and he wants to redo it for that. He drove away in it when he got married. Kinda cool I think! Now that we are moved, we will help him bust it out in a hurry. Jake my other partner (and family member) has a '52 effie that he will start restoring soon.

Re: '67 step-side replacement rear bumper

Ok, I got back to work on my truck today. I tore the column down and started cleaning. First I took some steel wool and cleaned the rust off of the chrome handles. Then I took some WD40 and sprayed the heck out of the inside to break up the grime. (I will regrease it later) I blew out the crap and then wiped it down with lacquer thinner to get the WD40 off.

Sanded the paint down to bare metal then etched it and then painted it charcoal BC/CC. I didn't like the way the cream column looked in the cab so I changed the color. More nuteral to accent the interior and make the cream sections stand out even more. I'm not sure if I will keep the same steering wheel or if I will go with a newer one, like a Grant or something. I kinda like the look of the older wheel, goes with the truck.

Sometimes when you try to blend newer with older the newer sticks out like a sore thumb.

LMC makes a 700R4 shift indicator for my column that I think I will order. The indicator that is in it now is for a three speed. For 10 bucks it would be nice to be able to have a indicator that matches my transmission.

Once I get the column in I'll post more pics.

Later guys, D

Oh, a few of you have asked me (bugged me is more like it... ) about what kind of rims I am going with. I found them and I thought I would post a pic. It's made by Ultra and I think they would complement the truck nicely. And to boot, they are affordable.
