I realize that the ridiculous warning labels are on everything for liability. I suppose it's just a sign of the times. But it does muddy the water between something that is actually dangerous and what isn't. Warning labels on everything just means that no one will pay attention to any of them. Even the legitimate ones that should be followed.

Re: Embarrassment

A friend of mine started work at a medical office as a supervisor. He had noticed that everything was marked as "stat" Which basically means urgent. His remarks were if everything is stat, nothing is stat

Confession time. I have removed the labels from pillows and some furniture even when it said not to.
And most products should have this label on them. Really!

Re: Embarrassment

Hey Boog, I won't tell anybody if you don't rat me out. I bought a new Harley in '90. There were warnings all over that thing. The chrome rims had foil stickers with tire pressure warnings. Peeling them right off. Aren't we supposed to read the owners manual before operating the machine? I guess the manual has a warning on it telling you to do that, too. I don't remember what others they had, but they all came off. I bought the bike to customize and my style is stripped down minimal clean lines. The stickers on the rims prevents keeping wax on the chrome there, so would eventually start pitting under there anyway. What I don't understand is why wasn't there a warning sticker on the tank where you can see it all the time to warn riders that riding motorcycles is more dangerous than cars, with small print going on to inform you that it won't be dents in your fenders or bumpers, it will be dents in you. Where's the warning for risk of loss of limb or paralysis?

Yep, I see this excessive warnings thing as serving to dumb society down. It's making people dependent on warnings for safety and not use their own judgement, not look out for their own safety. "I thought it was safe. There were no warning signs". Think Jeff Foxworthy . This is what I envisioned back when the stickers came out all over the place. That was 35-40 years ago and, so far, I think it's been proven right. Give another generation's time and let's see where we are

I always say I grew up in the pre-safety era.

I'm going to rat you out Boog. That's right. I'm dropping a dime on you. Society cannot tolerate label vandals. Just think of all the innocent people that could be injured by having those labels removed.

Me as well, even though it was because of where I grew up and not when. The part of Arkansas I was in during the 1970's was more like late 1950's to early 1960's in the rest of the world. In retrospect, it was fantastic but at the time and for many years as a young adult I didn't appreciate it.

Riding in the bed of a pickup, riding on grandma's lap to town with no seat belt, motorcycles with no helmet, and drinking water from the hose. Surprised me and all my buddies survived to adulthood.

I got a good chuckle when I saw the prop65 warning sticker on a hi-lift jack I bought. In Canada... I figured a Concusion warning might be appropriate, but no, apparently getting cancer from some cast iron is a bigger concern than letting go of the handle. =-)

Re: Embarrassment

i wish they would have started warning us sooner. I already developed a taste for chewing paint off of Hi-Lift Jacks long before the cancer warnings. I can't stop now. I just ignore the warnings and chew to my content. I winder if I can sue for waiting too long to warn me. I'm the victim here!

Back when I acquired my taste for Hi-Lift paint there was lead in it. Withdraw from that was hard. I do feel healthier now, but I sure do miss that sweet taste!
