I like the original buddy bucket seats, but finding an original seat seems difficult. The reupholstered one I found on Ebay was going for $1050. Ebay is where I found this dealer.

I was just wondering if anyone has purchsed one of these aftermarket seats, and I'd love to see one in our trucks.

Thanks,

Dan
4tiresngas I bought some Santa Cruz 40-20-40 Truck Seats from Discount Van-Truck-SUV-RV and found them to be good quality for the price but I will be adding some bracing to the legs of the adapter bracket. There not installed at this time but if you want to see the ones I’m going to be using check out my build thread.

Do you guys (upolstery(sp?) shop??) make the seat covers or are they the repops and you install?? The reason I ask is that I want a color combo that gm didn't do, but I want the seat covers to be coorect (scroll work, etc?) LMK??

Can these be purchased at your shop or do you need the seat to reupholster.

Re: bucket seats and consoles

i dont know about the rest of these guys but when we do them at our shop there are two ways we have done then either new repro upholstery is bought and then altered to the desired pattern or sometimes people use the (stubs) insert pieces with the scroll and have the covers made to their specs, sometimes dying is involved if you want to change the color of the stubs. thats just how i have done them in the past and they have worked out very well, most of the time we either do buddy buckets or utility buckets this way.
thanks, chris

Re: bucket seats and consoles

4tirengas, I have a set of the Santa Cruz 40/20/40 seats in my '71 4x4 and am very satisfied. Very comfortable to sit in and like the center storage complartment. Bought them from a dealer at a swap meet couple years ago, installed after modifying a bare set of original bench seat runners. Did not want to drill new mount holes in my cab so picked up on the original bolt hole mountings. Still not quite done with the install as they sit a little to tall for me but is manageable. Plan on doing some more modification when I get the truck out of storeage this spring. Sorry but don't have a pic on the computer right now and truck is in storage. Think I gave close to $600 for them but they are VERY comfortable, just sit a bit to tall for the moment.

Re: bucket seats and consoles

For those of you who have the newer silverado/sierra front buckets and console, do you also have the gas tank in behind them? Would there be enough leg room with the gas tank still in the cab? I'm 6'3" so i'm curious before i go buy anything.

Re: bucket seats and consoles

I'm 6' 1" and am very comfortable with the gas tank behind me still. About the same as I remember the stock bench being.

Honestly, there is no leg room to be gained with the tank gone... The seat back hits the cab before the seat bottom hit's the tank. It's not like you'll ever have the seat back tilted forward so the seat bottom can slide back to where the tank would be.

What's a set like this worth? I used to have the exact thing in a storage building that someone else was renting, now they are gone........

Re: bucket seats and consoles

Hey dude, this thread is like 10 months old... but it does have some nice seats!
BTW - welcome to the board!

Since we are on the subject, I have been looking at the 1st gen Camaro seats that are bolstered like a new seat, and was wondering how hard it would be to fit in a truck?

I had Camaro seats in my 72. I made spacers out of 2" square tube to get enough height outta them. Didn't look to bad, I did paint and cap the square tube. But still not really the best setup. Bolts had to be kinda on the long side. Still sat quite a bit lower than the stock bench.

I recently swapped over to '01 silverado 40/20/20 seats that could just as easily be mounted without the center to be just buckets. Much better height wise and I like the integrated shoulder belts as well.

Just stay on the junkyards if you are looking for nice seats.

Re: bucket seats and consoles

Here are mine....71-72 bucket seats...with a center section from I believe a late 90's or early 2000 model Dodge truck....looks similar to the buddy bucket...flips up and down...has storage in the top section and the bottom as well...works for me...

OldSkool71: Here's a couple more. The green is the stock light green but the white was some leftover white that I had toned down. This is where I'm at right now as I'm doing everything my self learning as I go and only get to work on it on the weekends and painting it piece by piece in the garage. It's got the 50 yard paint job.Looks good from 50 yards.
