1987 V10, rubber mat over carpet? Factory or aftermarket?

So I guess the truck is fully carpeted with this rubber mat over the whole thing! Nerver even realized it. Was this a factory option or an aftermarket addition?
Thoughts?

Just a thought.
Maybe a original buyer wanted a fully optioned truck with a rubber mat instead of carpeting. (He worked construction but wanted a truck with all the bells and whistles)

If the dealer couldn't order a carpet delete truck, I could see them having it installed in the service department to satisfy the customers wishes just to make the sale on a truck they had sitting on the lot.

If I was a salesman and this was the only thing standing between me and a sale, I would have suggested it in hopes of closing the deal.

However, it reminds me of people that used to put those clear plastic covers on their couches.

I have never seen that either. But I would lean more towards dealer installed accessories. I would highly doubt that came straight off the factory line like that. You’ll know better, once you get the rubber mat out. If that carpet looks brand new under the mat, then you’ll know it was done when the truck was new. I say it was dealer installed when the truck was bought.

I’ve owned a lot of these trucks and I’ve never seen this type of mat covering carpet before. It fits perfect, like a factory mat. Always a first time LOL

I had a 1986 K30 I parted out about three years ago, it had carpet - but the carpet did not go all the way back like that carpet does. When I replaced the carpet in my 1979 C35 it also had the short carpet under the seat, but I replaced it with an aftermarket carpet the went all the way to the back of the seat. Both of my 1978's have the short carpet also.

I figured, it fits too well.

I’m guessing when the truck was ordered/bought “fully loaded” the buyer didn’t want the carpet floors. I’m guessing it would of been hard to delete the carpet on a loaded Silverado so the full mat was the ticket....just my guess.
