Master cylinder Problem

I did a disc brake conversion to my 68 and it had from the factory, power drums. I bought a valve for the disc and drum conversion and a 72 rebuilt master cylinder. My problem is mounting the master cylinder, the piston where the rod pushes into the master cylinder is no where as deep as older unit. Did I get the wrong master cylinder? I even bought a rebuilt 72 booster and the brake rod was the same adjustable rod. So now what?

The master cylinders are different between drum and discs. You may have the wrong rod. I think I have one the correct size but I'm not sure if the rods are different between the 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks. Mine is out of a 3/4 ton truck.
