Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R

so we pretty much worked on the engine cover all day. This is what $30 worth of specialty hardware gets you
so once we had attachment figured out we could begin designing the intake cover

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R

the crease is just for templating, won’t be there in steel. The lines represent bead rolls
The idea was a round cover to go with the round lines of the truck

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R

The firewall has about done
Here’s the engine cover, now we still have some bending and tweaking to do, but you get the idea
the last pic is an idea we had. Putting an oval hole in the side of the engine cover to use the fender supports

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R

i don't know, something is messing with my eye ... the big center cover just seams kinda too much. maybe the back could be cut in kind of like the front cuts out, just less?. maybe a step between the intake and coil covers to break up the solid plane? maybe i'm missing the look with the rest of the fender and rad covers, or maybe i'm nutz and am just the guy who never really likes full covers too.

but i don't have your final vision, so i shall stay tuned!

I can almost be proud of that!

We’ve discussed cutting the back of the intake cover and decided against it. The owner is delighted with the look.

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R

We worked on that hinged center grill
I think it came out looking pretty sharp!
Monday we’ll make the radio plate that goes behind
Unless you have strong objections, I am going to paint the center of the grill and glovebox door dashboard color
And we finally got that right speaker pod in!

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R

nice touch with the hinged speaker grill.

What are you going to use for a latch? magnet?

Thanks for sharing these ideas,

yeah, magnets seem to work best. Powerful earth magnets

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R

skymags: I did the same setup on my center grill. But I put the radio and the garage door opener behind the grill. I used magnets to hold it closed. I did have to shim the hinge to make the grill fit flush with the glove box door.

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R

I’ve done this on like 10 trucks. I put the radio and dual USB power station behind. And I shim out the glovebox hinges out to match the bottom of the grill.

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R

if the owner is delighted with the engine cover, thats great. personally I think you did a great job figuring it all out. I might clearance the center to the valve covers just so it has a break between the parts and shows some definition there. possibly some color would make the difference too. I realise it isn't done yet but I would personally roll the edges as well for a more finished look.
the dash idea is another great innovation to hide the modern amenities that we all kinda want. you could even hide a tablet in there so you can have it connected for engine outputs, speed, mapping etc.

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R

we are painting the cover dark matte blue (interior color) along with the firewall and engine block. We will be putting black door edge guard on edges that touch the coil covers (for separation)

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R

We built the radio faceplate
Unlike last time I wanted the USB flush, so a recessed plate was built and tacked in

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R

Steven spent 4 hours deep cleaning the engine!
I think it came out pretty spiffy!
We tacked a couple nuts to the underside of the cover for proper spacing and then wetsanded everything

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R

we completely masked the interior and firewall. Intending to shoot color today.
But about 4 oclock the compressor motor died. I’ve ordered a new one, but it won’t get here for a few days. At least the compressor died before we mixed the paint!

Is that ICT a high mount alternator bracket? VS the wider LS1 style?

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Woody R

no, it actually tucks the PS pump 1” closer to the engine. I’ll be using that bracket on this engine. Here’s a picture of that bracket on my 58 Brookwood
