Picture of Kabwe's truck http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=318301 and mine in the back groundReplacing the old weak battery tray with a stronger one. Smoothed out the lips on the bed edges where the gate closes. Also replacing the old weak battery tray for a stronger one I put together.

Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up
Replacing the old weak battery tray for a stronger one I put together. Picture of the bed before the stke pockets were welded shut and bed rails rounded. Welded tail gate cover on gate and removed rivits. That's a JC Penny stainless steel 6 qt. spaghetti pot behind the fuel cell cut up and reshaped to cover the fuel Fram flter. The filter and hard lines were not attractive so I came up with the pot idea to hide it.

Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up
Here some pictures of two long beds. Makes you think twice before you turn your nose up at a long bed step side. These are two perfect examples of what can be done. The
'56 GMC was at the 18th California Hot Rod Reunion 2009. The bumper on the front was for push starting a front motor dragster. Erik & Perry out of Arizon put this best together. If anybody on here knows these guys and thir truck tell them to join. They also built a blown '55 or '58 Chevy pick up with a modern bed. The next truck I shot pics of was at the local cruz nite I go to some times in Inglewood, Ca. This thing is off the chain. Who said Long beds don't look good?

Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up
What size is the pipe that you use for the rounded corners on the bed? I would like to do this mod sometime in the future.

Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up
I bought a 1 5/8" mandrel-bent j-pipe or u-pipe from Jegs. The kind of pipe for making and welding up your own headers.

Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up
BC Toy Chest,
In post #35, the photo of your cool new battery box reveals something about the setup of your welder. It appears that the polarity of the welder is backwards. I was using flux-core wire on a MIG welder that setup for gas welding. It took me a month to figure out why the welds looked like spaghetti. If you don't have a polarity problem then the shielding gas isn't doing its job. Nevertheless, cool project Man! Z |

HAHAHA, I have it set up correctly, and was using my gas I have good days and I have bad days still new to welding. This welder unlike some others came set up for gas and I did not have to reveres the polarity. Believe me I have been out of gas before and I know the difference with spitting and splater. My problem was trying to be sure I was getting good penetration while joining the two metals together at a 90 degree angle. The plates are only .125" thick but I was still a little intimidated by the thickness. But hey when I finished I threw it on the ground a couple of times and it didn't fall apart, Thanks for the input. I welded a bracket on my frame with Kabwe' s 220 mig welder and with far less experience then him and it was like the thing welded on it's own. When money allows I will get one it seems to make life easier. Thanks for the copliment on my project btw.
