C20 wheel, offset and centre bore?

I am looking to purchase after market wheels for my truck.

Any idea what the factory offset is on stock steel wheels?

And how large of a centre bore is required on the wheels to clear the rear hubs?

I can tell you right off 4.56” is the bore. Are you stock height, lowered, disc brake swap, how wide of a wheel are you wanting to run?

68 C20, lowered 2/4 with 1/2 ton coils. Still running 4 wheel drum brakes.

Looking at running a 18x9 wheel with 265 65 18 tire.

I am considering Ion 171 wheels. https://www.ionalloy.com/171. They have 0 offset and a 131mm centre bore.

Re: C20 wheel, offset and centre bore?

Assuming you are after the larger ion holes? I’m running 18x9 pro comps with 4.75” backspacing and the ions are 5.0. I personally wouldn’t run the ion for two reasons, first is they are about $55 a piece more. Also with drums your track width up front is on the narrower side versus a disc front which I have, so yours will tuck in another .25” on each side more than the pro comps. I’ll go get a picture in a little bit for your reference. The rear of mine has 1.25” spacers to bring them out with the fronts so keep that in mind when thinking about the backspacing. Go too far to the inside in the rear and you have to worry about tire clearance to the wheel tub if you get the axle off camber or loaded down real heavy if you are coil spring rear

Re: C20 wheel, offset and centre bore?

As flush with the inner fender as you can get. With you being narrower track I’d say the lowering won’t be an issue. Even with disc I think it would still clear with the correct tire

Re: C20 wheel, offset and centre bore?

I had not seen the Pro comp wheels in my search. I live in northern Canada and think I am going to order in the wheels and get tires locally.

The online dealer I have found sells the Ion 171 in matte black for about $20 less a wheel than the Pro Comp 69.

What size of tires are you running on those wheels, Thanks for the pictures.

Re: C20 wheel, offset and centre bore?

The Ion 171 center caps are too shallow to clear the D60 hub and require a 1/2” or greater spacer to fit.
I picked up the Ions for my ‘72, but have not yet mounted tires. I chose the Ions because of the 5” back space. My current 275/70’s on a 16x8 with 4” backspace rub the front fender after lowering 2” and pushing the tire forward with the caster mod. With the narrower track of the ‘68, I’d favor the Pro Comp unless you are partial to the look of the Ions and plan to run spacers. Ion and Pro Comp are the only two I found in 18” with this style wheel.

Re: C20 wheel, offset and centre bore?

I’m running 275/70s so they are about 32.5” tall. The black finish never even dawned on me. Personal preference is I don’t like matte finish wheels because as they age they tend to get a chalky look from what I’ve seen especially on salty roads, polished can always be repolished. Not trying to sway your choice but give thoughts to consider. Unsure what price you’ve found but here they are on summits site for the exact procomp that I have.

Re: C20 wheel, offset and centre bore?

Very similar price I am seeing from a Canadian supplier who will ship for free.
https://www.tdotperformance.ca/pro-c...t-4-75-bs.html $196.99 CDN

Or

Polished Ion 171 for $206 https://www.tdotperformance.ca/ion-1...-polished.html

or

Black Ion 171 for $177.95 https://www.tdotperformance.ca/ion-1...tte-black.html

I truly appreciate your input. Original statement "I personally wouldn’t run the ion for two reasons, first is they are about $55 a piece more" So at $10 a wheel more would you still choose Pro Comp?

I agree on matte black not staying matte black. But they just might get plasti dip bronze in a year or two. And the truck does not see salt or mud. Kind of a garage queen survivor.........

Re: C20 wheel, offset and centre bore?

Gotcha, well before I order from summit I always put the part number in an eBay search. Wouldn’t believe how many times I’ve purchased from summit thru eBay and that way no shipping or handling.

Or just do some online shopping and then see what ads pop up on Facebook. Summit ad says they will ship to Canada for free!

But they hit you with a $8 or so handling fee. When I worked there I waived it for my regulars all the time

Re: C20 wheel, offset and centre bore?

I ordered the black Ion 171's from Tdot. Now I will have to wait and see how long they take to arrive.

What did you use for spacers?

Just the bolt on solid aluminum ones you can get online. I don’t like my rear being tucked way under. But in your case you’ll probably be perfect just bolting on

Re: C20 wheel, offset and centre bore?

So 2 months later I am putting on the wheels! Tdot Performance was cheaper, but a real pain in the ass.....

I wanted a wheel with some bronze to go with the truck. But bought black and decided to play with bronze Plasti dip.

Any opinions? I will try and post pics later, I guess I can’t from my phone sitting in the garage...

So my real problem is the rear hubs being too long for the centre caps. The centre cap bottoms out on the end of the axle a good 1/2” before the centre cap touches the wheel. I don’t think I have the stud room or fender room to push the 265 65 R18 out by using a wheel spacer between the drum and wheel. Any ideas for a common product that could be modified to basically make a washer that is 5” inside diameter and 1/2” thick to use as a spacer?

Re: C20 wheel, offset and centre bore?

Go capless and just buy new caps if you want the gold/bronze look. I personally like no center caps on an 8 lug to help the heavy duty look

Pictures of the new wheels.

I went and walked the plumbing section of the local hardware store. I bought black ABD toilet spacers and I hope to carve the outside edge to the shaped of the centre cap snd use it as a spacer between the wheel and centre cap.

Your setup looks great! Love it when the Big Girls (C20s) get the love. We ran 16X8 with a 4" back space in the rear and 16X6.5 with 4.5 back space up front. The Caps are from an '89 C20 Suburban 4X4, using the front caps on the rear to clear the DANA 60 hubs.

That sure is making it more and more tempting to bring my truck down

Rear centre caps on. The spacers are far from perfect but I like this much better than no caps. Looks ok from 10 ft away.

Re: C20 wheel, offset and centre bore?

The wheels and tires were too much black. I tried making the centre cap gold but didn’t like that either.
So I ordered a Strip it All tool and added a gold pinstripe. When I went to remove the plastidip coating on the centre, the logo stayed gold.

I really like this look.
