Awesome 2wd lifted GMC!

Came across this 72 GMC for sale, has to be the best looking lifted 2wd I’ve ever seen. Exactly what I want my 68 to look like. The seller isn’t very forthcoming on how it was done, other than a shop did it, so I’m left to guess how it was done. The rear is leaf sprung so that’s easy, either blocks or lifted leafs. I’m wondering about the front. My best “guess” is 4” lift spindles from a 88-98, and coils from a 3/4 ton truck. I think it’s a 3/4 ton truck based on the camper mirrors, but can’t tell if it’s got 5, 6, or 8 lug wheels and the caps are later model covering them up. I’m also “guessing” they are 8 lug Ford Accurides, but I wasn’t aware of any 3/4 ton lift spindles being made.

Re: Awesome 2wd lifted GMC!

Those are the 80s squarebody 3/4 ton hubcaps, so my guess is it's an 8 lugger. Would be neat if the seller would take some pictures of the front suspension bits

I like that truck, too! These easy way to tell 1/2t from 3/4-1t hubcaps is the 1/2t have 5 spokes and the 8-lug have 6 spokes

Re: Awesome 2wd lifted GMC!

Not a fan. Lifting a 2wd is like lowering a 4wd, imo.

Interesting..odd how the last two pictures you cannot see the lower control arm either? Or the rear driveshaft on picture # two? Curious how this was done myself.

Re: Awesome 2wd lifted GMC!

It seems to be pretty popular to do in CA. There was a member here who did this to his 2wd as well. I'll see if I can dig up that thread.

Re: Awesome 2wd lifted GMC!

Raising a C/20 doesn't decrease it's abilities the way lowering a 4wd would. It gives the same benefits to a 2wd as raising a 4wd.

Re: Awesome 2wd lifted GMC!

Someone did a great job on this

I think it's a great idea. Nice stance and ride quality probably beats a solid axle

Are those 17" wheels and 33s?

Lowering 4wds is becoming normal for drag race applications now too

Thanks for sharing

I did this to mine in 81 and ran 40s for 20 years, Yes 2X4s look just as great as 4 x 4s

Re: Awesome 2wd lifted GMC!

Have you asked the seller for pics/details on the front suspension?

Not my cup of tea. Then again I’m not really into 2x4 trucks in general. I’ll keep my K’s. I like the real thing not an imposter.

Re: Awesome 2wd lifted GMC!

One of my first trucks was a lifted 2x4 and I loved it. I find it curious though in the pics from the side, it appears that the lift was accomplished by a lifting shackle not a block at the axle because the tire is not centered in the wheel well. Looks as though the leaf spring is rotating on its front axis pulling the wheel/axle closer to the cab. Could be terrible axle steer issues when that axle starts articulating in the bumps.

Good looking truck though.
