WIW 69 C10 Short Fleet

I am involved in negotiations on a trade for a truck that, unfortunately, I will probably just turn around and try to sell. Just trying to get an idea of what it would sell for as it sits, or if I should try to hold on to it for at least a little while and change some things on it.

The Truck:

1969 Chevy 1/2 ton 2wd short bed fleetside truck, 350/350, 73,000 miles, supposedly with the original engine, but with aftermarket intake, carb, valve covers and headers.

The Good:

Body has had some repairs, but is pretty much solid and rust free.

Paint is not show quality, but is not bad. Minor imperfections in some places.

Add-on AC? (Not factory), nicely done under-dash unit that supposedly functions.

5 on 5 front and rear with disc brakes in front. Assuming not original.

HEI distibutor.

Tonneau cover is clamped on, not bolted.

Comes with extra set of rallye wheels (73-up type)

Dash not cut for radio.

Front grill appears dent free and plastic has no breaks. Aluminum is nice but not show quality.

Bumpers are dent free, "OK" chrome.

Frame and cab braces appear to be nice and solid, with surface rust only.

The bad:

Floor shifter for the automatic, hole cut in carpet.

Overly-padded dash.

Re-upholstered seat has something making a lump in the drivers side.

Cragar wheels were put on 7 years ago, then left unprotected to rust. Not a lot of miles.

Tires - see Cragars.

Most body panels don't line up 100% perfect.

Needs heater core.

Door panels and ARMRESTS painted gloss black.

Passenger inner fender rusted away under battery tray.

The undetermined value:

Front end appears to be lowered, not sure how.

Tonneau cover.

Bedliner (bed appears solid underneath)

Chrome "barefoot" gas pedal.

I'm sure I am forgetting some stuff, but that is what I remember off the top of my head. I'm not going to post any prices just yet on this vehicle or my trade, just looking for what a truck like this might sell for if nothing is done to it.

QUESTION: I might be able to get a disassembled 402 big block thrown in on the deal. At this point I am assuming this truck has the original 350 in it. Is there any benefit to installing a big block into a truck that most likely wasn't equipped with one originally?

Glove box sticker is unreadable, unfortunately. I have the VIN and will attempt to decode and post the results here.

Re: WIW 69 C10 Short Fleet

well, i guess what we need to know is, what does he want for it? And what do you think its worth? Its hard to get a good idea without seeing it in person, for me anyway. I just saw one sell up here for $2k that was comparable to yours. And another one a couple months ago for $3500.
What do you feel comfortable spending on it? Its a nice truck, but i don't think i'd go more than 2500-3000. Thats just me.

Re: WIW 69 C10 Short Fleet

Thanks, I would like to see a few more opinions before I discuss actual prices involved, don't want to taint peoples opinion...I know it's hard to judge just on pictures, but I'm interested in what people have paid in the midwest for something similar, and what you have seen others sell for. Getting some good info from other threads, but I don't want to go too far back in history because then the economy comes into play. If this was four years ago it would be a done deal already.

Re: WIW 69 C10 Short Fleet

In Texas that easily a 4500 or better truck. If it runs and looks ok it's 3500. If it's painted and the interrior is in good shape (like this one) add 1 to the 3.

Re: WIW 69 C10 Short Fleet

Guess I thought this would get more traffic, maybe I should have put it in the 67-72 section...

Anyways, ultimately I would like to get $5000 out of it without doing anything to it. Owner started out asking $6500 for it, but sounded like he would take $5500 cash for it, but he admittedly doesn't get on the internet much to see what kind of prices these trucks are bringing, although he has owned 5 of them.

I am trading my dually, which books for $6650 in it's current condition but is a 454 gas and a hard sell at $4 a gallon gas. I had already reluctantly accepted a $5000 offer for my truck when there was another one I wanted to buy right away, but the buyer flaked and the deal fell through (and the other truck got away). I have the dually on Craigslist for $5500 cash or $6500 trade. I honestly don't think this truck is worth $6500 as it sits, but I think (hope) it should bring $5K. Based on what my 72 sold for I think this truck cleaned up and given a little "attitude" should bring $7500+. It would take a lot of elbow grease, but probably not a lot of extra cash put into it.

Paint is not show quality, but is not bad. Minor imperfections in some places.

As long as the repairs were done corectly and the truck is straight. I'd think it would be worth around 5k. freshen up the interior and change the wheels I'd say 6k-6,500.

Nice short fleet beds sell for over $1k on this forum and so do nice cabs. Nice driver that's allready been switched to 5 lug should bring $4500 all day long and most of the drivers I see for sale for that price don't have paint that looks that nice.

Re: WIW 69 C10 Short Fleet

Based on your dually, I'd say this is a good deal. Up here those truck go for $5+ all day long from what I can see...and those trucks aren't even painted lol

$2-3g for a SWB fleet...WOW I'm moving out to Maine..that's dirt cheap for these. And this truck would sell a lot faster than a dually and will hold it's value compared to the dually which will lose it over time. If you were to keep the chevy. With some elbow grease and a good detailing and fixing any small imperfections I can see that truck getting $7+ easy, but then again check your local market and see what's out there and the prices.
