Struggling with color selection

Truck is a 1967 currently in the middle of a full restoration.
I’m struggling with paint selection and the supply shop had limited info to help decide.
Im looking to paint the car in a base coat clear coat solid color (non pearl, non metallic).
I’m looking for a lighter red maroon type color.
anyone have a paint code from your project that fits this description? I understand it will likely be a non stock GM color. Pictures also if possible.
thanks!
Mark

Re: Struggling with color selection

Thanks for the reply. Nothing in stock GM color line is what I’m looking for though.
Any solid color paint jobs out there in maroon or darker red?
Once I get a code I like I will do a spray out to verify before purchase.
Thanks!

I used the following app to find the color that I have on my truck using the photo portion of the app, but there are also color libraries that give you the numbers and combinations of base paints required to achieve the color that you want. It may help you out. As you say, test first before purchasing the paint

Re: Struggling with color selection

I know you're not looking for stock, but vermillion metallic is a pretty sweet color, it's rare, and sounds kind of what you're looking for.

Nice. Thanks. I asked the paint store about picking a metallic base coat but not adding the metallic to it. He said it would throw the color way off. I may try 4oz spray out that way and see how it goes.
Not sure how that would effect pricing.

Take a look at this site:
http://www.ppgpaintit.com/Collision....urnBrand=PPGNA
You can sort out just the solid colors in a particular color family. You can also sort by year and manufacturer.

Re: Struggling with color selection

Well the way I picked my color was by using a Pantone color chart. It is booklet style and has a large number of colors to choice from. If you know someone who is a graphic artist they may have access to a booklet. This is how I picked my color for my truck. Just told the paint shop I wanted Pantone 331 and they mixed it right up.

A another option is the Munsell color system. This is what I consider the best option as it is actual spray painted samples.

Last option would be go the paint store and start digging through their books.

Run down to a local body shop. They have books of color chips from all car companies.

Yes. I did that. This store had very limited books on solid colors.
I think I’m good and at least have a starting point.
Thanks for all the info.
