1971 cab and chasis dump truck

I have a 1971 c30 dump truck with plow I just bought. The front springs sit to low for me I would like to have as heavy duty of springs as I can and for the truck to sit up higher. I am going to rebuild the entire front suspension a long with the coil springs. What springs have others used?

You could also look at Big Block with Air conditioning, that would stiffen it up if you have a small block.

That would be a good one to make a 4x4 out of

Re: 1971 cab and chasis dump truck

I have been thinking about 4x4. It has a 350 465. I have a couple t56s and a nv4500 4x4 laying around. I am leaning on keeping it 2wd till I finish filling my barn with gravel. Either way the suspension need replaced. Rock auto only show 1 spring opion for the front. I was hoping some one has got the front of these trucks up more thrn stock. The plow pf course causes aot of sag.

Re: 1971 cab and chasis dump truck

Just new coils would help and since you have the plow I'd go for the big block/AC springs. If the plow still drops the front end too much for you there are these snubber things they sell for tow trucks. www.awdirect.com sells them. They are like air bags but just rubber, but sealed for air pressure

Re: 1971 cab and chasis dump truck

I read thru the 68 4x4 build a while back it was very good. I have been looking for a small dump truck and this one came up. I had been wanting a 67-72. I have had a 87 4x4 for about 20 years now so and older one is needed
. The 71 dump fit both wants. I restore cars on the side and have done work on a 68 c10 and a 72 c20.

I see photobucket is up to its tricks what do you guys use to post picks that isn't photobucket. So you can see what I post and not p500 error.

I have used BB A/C springs in a few cars over the years.
I will check them out for the c30. I didn't know if there was a heavy/ super duty spring for the dump trucks.

Re: 1971 cab and chasis dump truck

That is stamped on the axle tube? I never knew they'd be stamped if equipped with No-Spin. If that's true you just taught me something while trying to find something out. I don't see anything to indicate ratio. Bset way to learn the ratio is pull cover and get numbers off ring gear. Then you can put fresh lube in to keep that old HO on the street

Re: 1971 cab and chasis dump truck

I used these springs. My truck is a 72 C20 with a Cummins 6bt. Been installed for several years and no issues.

Can't remember what they are supposed to be for. I did a bunch of research at the time but have forgotten.

Still have my sales receipt from Rockauto so I was able to pull the part number.

Re: 1971 cab and chasis dump truck

Check out https://www.sdtrucksprings.com/. I've ordered from them multiple times to re-spring my work trucks and have been very happy with the quality. They have HD packs for the rears and options (if I remember correctly...) to add leaves to the pack. Worth looking into...
