Rear shock mounts!! Need help

I am in need of a better set up for the rear shock mounts..Po put in a 75-79 camaro rear end axle was flipped axle sits on frame..I need to c notch for sure.. but not sure about shock mounts there ia a hokey setup on it know when I get home I will post a pic.. Any help and pics would be great...

I think there is another thread on the same subject. I'd suggest cutting the stock mounts off and using mounts like the Moroso ones http://www.summitracing.com/parts/mo...FelxQgodMkMAxg You can order them at the local parts house with the parts number most of the time and some keep them in stock. Then I'd come up with bottom plates/shock mounts that work the way you want them to.

i have my 86 trans am axle flipped and on stock springs.
i used stock tf upper and lower shock mounts with a monroe-matic 33086 shocks
i did too little of a c-notch and changed them to air shocks
i'd suggest a 5 inch c-notch as a minimum, that will require raising the bed

From looking at it I'd say that the springs came with the axle from the donor car and I'd sure be checking how they were mounted front and rear.

It looks like he tried to put the left bracket on the right hand side and didn't do anywhere near a decent job of it.

It should look like what Ogre showed in post 5 where you can see how those shock brackets actually should be mounted. I don't believe that you can get them to fit your spring setup though and you may have to fab a new set of brackets if you want to keep the setup the way it is. That may be the simplest thing to do though.

Now what I wrote may make a bit more sense.

crazy huh!! Glad I really haven't driven it yet...U know I thought I saw 2 ubolts..I guess I will have to take out the old and look for a flip kit..Any sugesstions???..Those shock mounts are so bad >>>>

Just saw your ? on the front clip and saw you had issues with the rear as well, so looked at this thread. That is the springs and mount from the donor, my T/A donor had only one U-bolt and 2 t-slot studs on ea side. How are your springs attached to the frame? The T/A springs are about 4" longer and 1/2" wider than the truck springs + the seats on the axle would be too wide apart for the stock mounts on the frame, but I see the stock frame mount in the pic.??
Speedway has some lower shock mounts that should work but I'd be most concerned about the structural integrity of the way the rear is installed first.

When I did mine with a camaro axle I relocated and welded on new shock mounts and put in shorter shocks.

I know this is a shock question but.....

I'm just curious as to the side view ride height, with the front clip issue and the rear axle so close to the frame I'm wondering if your truck looks like it's leaning back (aka: dragging a*s) vs a level ride.

Do you have any close ups of the axle pearch where it mounts to the spring? hard to tell in the pic but the ones that are on there look too tall which would cause the axle to bump the frame, not sure if that is happening but I do see a bit of evidence that it has happened before.

I'm only going from memory here so my numbers may be a bit off
but when you do an axle flip solely by moving the axle to the top of the spring and mounting a new perch you end up changing the ride height by upwards of 7"... more if you use a tall axle perch like I think I see in the pic (9"ish) which will put the axle way too close to the frame without a decent C notch.
Some people (like me) will flip the rear shackle as well to to the underside of the rear mount which will raise the height by about 3" so the end total on the rear drop is closer to 6" so with the clip on the front which is roughly a 6-7" drop you end up with a level ride height or a slight rake to the front...... this is assuming that your front and rear springs are not sagging as well.

I'm no expert BTW just going by the ones I have done and what I see.

Also is there a parking brake cable going to the rear? don't see one in the pic

It has a rake its lower in front i will get some pic of the rear ..Man the po if i see him again he deserves a kick in his ass for some of his work on this truck..looks like I have a lot of work ahead of me...the second pics is the way its is of now..

The stance looks about right for what was done. All things considered it looks as if you just have to finish off the suspension work the PO seems to have given up on.

I just checked mine and stand corrected..... no shackle flip required.... my bad

First off like me say you have a very nice looking truck.

Second after seeing the pics you posted of the shock mount, personally I would not trust any suspension work that the previous owner did. It is in my opinion the work of a hack. I would redo the camaro clip for sure. This is just my opinion and it really does not mean anything other than to myself.

Im going to tackle the clip for the rear im going to get the no limit rear set up and relocate those shocks...

you can save a whole lot of money and time by sourcing the parts yourself.
step back and study your problems before you start throwing money at it.
your shock mount looks like the same as my stock mount, just on the wrong side and only one u-bolt.
your on stock springs as am i, look closely at the picture below:
2 u-bolts, a spring pad and a square plate is all that i used. $29 in parts.

post a better picture of the side of your spring pad and another of the other side.
i think you just need a few parts to get it back in shape.

i don't see a c-notch in your frame either, that will be a very rough ride if you don't c-notch your frame.

Where di dyou get the parts from I know no limit sells a kit for like 100.00 bucks..Did you fab a shock mount on the steel plate?..I am will be a busy man this winter....

I'm still puzzled how the 2-1/2" springs are fit in the 2" stock frame mounts .

Tractor supply sells them but any trailer supply store will have them,$6 ea. for a 3" axle

Looks like what they did was use the 57 stock springs and "fabbed" the camaro spring perches whoever did it was not a master fabricator...when i got it i did not notice it till of course i brought here home...i am going to cut all those mounts off and do it right..man the po must have used a arc welder nasty looking welds..I cut the brackets it those pics and kinda made it more like Orbe's but the metal is all bent up but it looks 100% the when I first got it..I will fix this soon I will also be putting in a C notch in too maybe move the shock to more of a straighter angle...WORK WORK WORK>>>>>haha

You'll be a lot happier and confident driving it knowing that the suspension is done right , after you get through with it. Plus it 'll drive straight EVEN AFTER a few beers, you wont be all over the road.
