Re: Wiring a 700R4

What you mean no wiring ? no wiring at all or the plug is not wired up. Just google it ten different ways to do this . Is it a manual valve body or ??? Not near enough info.

There is no wiring to the plug. I don't think it has a manual valve body.

Re: Wiring a 700R4

Sounds like you need to drop the pan and have a look see ,do you know if its a lock-up convertor or not. Hopefully Clinebanger will chime in and help

Re: Wiring a 700R4

How do I determine if it has a lock up converter?

Re: Wiring a 700R4

I think the only true way to tell is to drop the pan and see if you have a wire harness in there. Are there any wires comming out on the pass side ,I have heard that some people just snip the wires and don't worry about lock-up.If it was me I would drop the pan and find out what is in there besides never hurts to change the filter.I take it you bought it this way so not knowing the previous owner to ask ?

Re: Wiring a 700R4

I used a TCI kit in both my 63 and my 69 ,it has several differant options to hook it up.The kit Sheepdip posted looks like a good kit allso and I would be very tempted try it if I needed another one.

Re: Wiring a 700R4

Not to hijack the thread but I’ve got a question about wiring my lockup. The builder wired it internally but I’m a little confused on the exterior wiring. Truck was originally a 3spd on the column so I’m not sure where to head in on the wiring. If I buy a kit I’ll end up with a bunch of extra parts I don’t need. Does anyone know what exactly I need as far as brake switch etc? Thanks

This kit is external only. No endorsement of price or supplier simply a sample.

1 harness will feed 12 volts to the pressure switch and the other will feed from the pressure switch to the external tranny plugin...very simple. I'm quite sure it even comes with instructions.

I'm not trying to hyjack anyones thread, but I have a similar problem only with a 200-4R. I've never seen a 700-R4 to compare to my 200-4R, but I have purchased a 200 and have it in my truck behind a 292. I have the TV cable for the valve body which mounts on the passenger side installed and connected to the carb. On the drivers side of tranny I have a single spade that I know has to be wired for the lock up. Question, do I just run a single wire to a hot source in the fuse box or does it hook to the brake light switch, or just where and how does this work.

Re: Wiring a 700R4

That connector I think will lock the converter when you apply 12 volts. You need to have a set up like sheep dip recommends.
