Re: Paint strippers

I remember the old aircraft stripper in the spray can. Spray that stuff on the paint and it runs right off the fender. I had a can of stripper with MEC in it, but it went bad and I turned it in at a household hazardous waste roundup. I'd try acetone if you can't get the good stuff from out of state. I think that pool (hydrochloric, aka muriatic) acid would make for a quick peel, but you'd have to neutralize it, and the chlorine in the fumes is bad news. My neighbor used to use that to strip his motorcycle parts. Got to be sure to stay upwind! You could neutralize it with baking soda. Sparingly, as it foams up pretty good, like the old baking soda and vinegar volcanoes.

I thought about muriatic acid, but that stuff is pretty nasty - don't really want to mess with it.

Same comment as 2 years ago , These 3M Paint and Rust Stripper Brushes work , No chemicals , no special tool , No heat build up , easy to find locally and cheap and they work ! I use them in an air side grinder but they even work good in an electric drill .

3M Paint and Rust Stripper 7771NA Cleans rusty surfaces with a double-thick edge to strip quicker Features Scotch-Brite abrasive web that won't rust or splinter like wire brushes Conforms to surface contours reduces gouging and leaves a smooth paintable surface Fits all standard household drills 1/4-Inch 3/8-Inch and 1/2-Inch Use as a rotary disc (on face) or as a brush (on edge)

Re: Paint strippers

Good to know about the 3M strippers. They make excellent products, across the board.

Re: Paint strippers

I use both paint stripper and 3M abrasive wheels, alone or in combination. It depends. I've never had an issue from using paint stripper. The cab I used Jasco on in that thread I linked in post #4 is still sitting in primer. No issues.

That post was from 09. Time to get back to work on the old gal. Joking of course but glad the primer is holding up and not absorbing water on you.

Yeah pretty ridiculous. I used to call it my '67 project but the word project implies some sort of action, forward motion, movement, so need a better word. It sat under that (suspended) tarp until last year. Finally last year I moved it into a small garage I built so I could put some action to the word project. But I've been focused on getting my place in top shape to sell and move on, so it still sits for now. But 12 years has been long enough to know no stripper residue was left behind to cause problems was my point.
