Factory Pictures

This '69 Chevrolet Blazer concept model was part of the program that developed the production Chalet camper option. Notice that this early mockup featured a large glass hatch where the rear door that was located on the production version.

Pictured here are 1948 GMC pickups at GMC's Pontiac, Michigan plant as they reached the drive-off section of the assembly line. The fellow in the center is studying that device that is labeled as a wheel-alignment indicator.

Nice catch, they definitely look to have been painted with the engine assembly.

Re: Factory Pictures

I would have thought the 1980's Military Diesel Blazers would have had their own assembly line and/or plant.

Mopar painted them too. Most of it burnt off during cam break in.

Thanks for sharing photos! Any type of factory assembly photos are very rare and much appreciated. The GMC bed photo would be a great addition to an existing thread that stalled out http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ssembly+photos

Re: Factory Pictures

My neighbor Herb who is 87 years old worked in New Jersey Ford Motor Company Assembly plant in 1953-56 or so

He ask me if I ever seen a 3 door car? I guess not I says ,,so he went on to share with me how a 3 door car was assembled .

{{{This a look-a-like photo to help get the jest of what Herb told me}}

Herb was the foreman on the lines and he says that once in awhile the assembly people on one side of the line would read the assembly line instructions wrong for how many doors the car was to get.

So when the assembly line workers on their side installed the frame for a TWO DOOR car and the workers on the other side of the assembly line installed a FOUR DOOR ,,,then you had a 3 door car.

Herbs job was to make sure the assembly line was running smooth and also catch mistakes and order them cars off the assembly line down another line to be corrected ..
