Question I have searched all day for info

on 1987 3500 crew cab duallies. I found one with the 454 and th400 and was wanting to get some specs on these trucks. I finally found a site with hp and tq ratings...but as far as payload, towing, fuel ecomomy. I know the motors back then were anemic...but my old 92 350TBI got great mileage...wonder if the 454 would be at least reasonable(especially if i do a 4l80/85 swap later. I would hope 11-13mpg stock...is that even close?

Any info or links to good info would be greatly appreciated!

Re: I have searched all day for info

454 and gas mileage don't really go together. My old 97 had a Vortec 454 and that got 12-13 IIR.

As for power, I had a couple of older 454s that ran great and had all kinds of power. One was a 89 TBI that had 40" boggers and 3.73 gears and I could still lite the tires up.

Towing and hauling should be good, I've done both and never had any issues. If you can find a 91 with the 4l80 that would be probly the best combo to get. But are hard to find, specially in 4wd.

Re: I have searched all day for info

Thanks for the reply- I will start specifically searching for a 91 model now. found a 88 model 3+3 for $3500 and ALOT closer to my house yesterday- having some friends go by and check it out for me.

Looking for a 2wd specifically- plan to lay one out on bags.
