Re: Mike D's 50 pickup build

To explain pics above, I got TCI's Custom front IFS with GM big brakes and Ridetech bags. If you look at the pic of the with the front IFS you'll notice that its fully slammed and there is almost no camber which s pretty sweet. Hard to see in pics but this is really nice stuff. Was kinda drooling when i was opening the boxes.
The rear is TCI 4 link with Ridetech bags. It's going to be mounted to a ford 9 inch. Front and rear suspension will have sway bars.

I am in the process of c notching the rear and installing the fronts. Will completely box the frame with the Tig welder. I have made the decision to Install Billet precision lengend Mag wheels in 20x10 rears with 4 " B/s and 18x7 fronts with 3 1/2" B/S. So will have to shorten the rear axle and frame.

Will set the rear to front rake at 2 degrees. Did mock-up measurments fully slammed, with the wheels selected, floorboards will be approx 2 inches from the ground.

Installing 6L LS LQ4 engine from a 1 ton wrecked chevy express van. Checked out the Con Rod caps and bearing are in great shape. Putting a Comp Cam xtreme tri power plus and will use factory intake manifold and reclamed wiring harness from truck. As a reference, we just put a 62 Apache truck with the same engine camshaft configuration and got almost 400hp at the wheels so that is good enough for me. I have a Dyno at work which is a pretty sweet toy.

The tranny is a 4l80e.

This is the look i'm going for.

Here's a better pic of the front end.

Been working on the engine cosmetics for a while now and I think it's an improvement so far. Will let everything dry for a few days then get back to it.

Yes, i'm going for the slammed style patina finish. I'll try to keep the exterior and cab interior as original as possible.

are you going to use that 47 gmc grille? thats a 1.5 year only piece, and my favorite. I did a 47 gmc last year.

Thanks, that grille was laying in the box of this truck and the previous owner did not care to keep it. He just gave it to me. Will keep it for a future project. Its got a great patina.

Re: Mike D's 50 pickup build

Engine pretty much done detailing. Cam should be here in a few days. Got a new timing chain and behive valve springs also. Don't know what size pushrods I need so will install cam first and figure it out. Buddy's got a fancy adjustable pushrod for me to use.

So finally started the cab, scary stuff in there. It's tough to fix a cab while maintaining that rusty exterior. Anyway this pic is when i was getting started this morning. Made pretty good progress but forgot to take pic.

Frame is now getting put back together and rear axle width is figured out. Am putting 10" wide tires with 315r35 20" tires. Frame is presently beeing narrowed. Will tub it from the inside. Will post pics soon. All rivets have been removed and nuts welded-in instead. Lots going on this week. Am on holidays.

Got a lot of ol'school hot rodders taking a look at my project and they dont get that Patina lowrider stance i'm going for, lol.

Re: Mike D's 50 pickup build

Cab getting worked on, was in the process of cutting pitted areas when i took picture. Also removed visible pits on top. Sandblasted and rust treated that specific area.

Here's the frame getting boxed and narrowed.

Sweet, see you then and keep in touch. Don't know if mine will run next year but we'll see.

Re: Mike D's 50 pickup build

Thanks, it'll be ready for some serious LS power. Next step is to get me some Dutchman 31 spline axles and some rear willwood brakes. Also have the tank and fuel system to mount. Cant wait to get the wheels but am running out of cash so will have to wait a few months. I was checking out Billet specialties and really like the mag series but have found some 20 inch smoothies on their facebook page so will look into that. The axle has been shortened to 50 inches so it will take some 20x10's in the rear. Also the slammed ride height will set the boards 2 inches of the ground without having to raise the box or notch the frame. I also have a rear sway bar in the rear if you can see so it should handle well.

Re: Mike D's 50 pickup build

This weekends goal is to get the cab fitted with the engine and trans. These wheels are just there to move the truck around. Also Got all my rear axle parts coming, should have them late next week. The first thing to hit the ground is the oil pan so gotta get myself a low profile one ASAP.
