72 gmc bench seat

I just got my 72 creamsicle off bring-a-trailer and love it.

A older gentleman tastefully rebuilt it but I don't like the buddy seat set-up.
The buddy-seat isn't true to the 72 GMC K15 is it?

There are a couple rough bench seats on my local Denver CL and I will talk to a local upholster this week. I imagine shipping costs are an issue for sourcing seats?

I am interested in other's experiences.

There are some gorgeous seat rebuilds on the site.

thanks, michael

Re: 72 gmc bench seat

I dig the hugger top with the white center. Is that a factory scheme? I'm not sure I've ever seen the center painted an accent color and not the top as well...
At any rate very cool truck!

Re: 72 gmc bench seat

I doubt it's factory.
It is a nice truck but not intended as show.
I just bought it and plan to keep and drive it a long time.

Re: 72 gmc bench seat

Very Beautiful Truck!!! I personally prefer bench seats in these trucks. My 68 has bench seats, but I am not sure if they are original.

You have defiantly got yourself a keeper there

I thought there were several styles of factory Bench seats available
One is referred to as Full foam may have been an option for certain models Then some years do not fold forward for access behind the Seat.
I am not sure which is the more desirable to have or what years offered what options
I know that the Replacement Foam can cost almost as much as the cover.

I had a seat that came out of one of my trucks that appeared to have had the factory frame altered to lower it about and inch.
Not sure what that was all about

Re: 72 gmc bench seat

With regard to bench seats for these trucks, I have only seen the full foam and one of lesser quality - plus the covering options. Size, shape and mountimng have all been the same among those I have used/seen - someone may have seen more variety.

At the moment I have made mounting adaptors and am ready to install a re-done seat from a later model Chev truck into a 70 GMC - also got door panels/dash pad/visors and headliner to match this later seat. A remaining challenge will be what to do about the exposed portion of the in-cab fuel tank in that this new seat has a cutout/lower section in the middle. Needing to be inventive. Will try to post a pic or two when this one is done.
