Two fresh SBCs. I’ll decide which I like best.

Starting this thread and will update from time to time. I should make good progress in assembling and running the 2nd engine on the run stand over the coming weeks.

The gray 283 is discussed in another thread.

Here are some pics of my 2nd 283 SBC. Pistons are 0.060 and it has a Comp Cams 268 cam. Fresh rebuild with zero miles. It’s a 1965 283 block cast K 4 5 (11/4/65) with the original 520 casting power pack heads. Needs a break in run on the stand.

You know, in the event you can't decide, you still have another option....

Yeah, that’s interesting. I couldn’t pull that off.
Here are a few more pics.
This 1965 block was a not seized but looked like a charcoal BBQ inside.
Looks much better now.

I want to hear that 268H cam in a 283. One of my favorite old school cams
but only seen/heard it on 350-400 CI.
It's going to sound great!
Nice job on the cleanup looks great!

That's going to be a tough decision. I also have two 283s, so I'll be tuning in to see what you decide to do

Sounds like a nice build there. All I would add would be:

Close and hone the rod big ends to ensure they are not out of round

Make sure whomever does the heads with seals and valves makes sure the stem clearance is correct and the spring installed heights are correct for the cam.

Good luck sir...

Re: Two fresh SBCs. I’ll decide which I like best.

The email I got from Carolina Machine Engines had a heading of
283 HP and 325 torque. I didn’t include the entire email because it wasn’t that interesting. Mostly said that the “correct” this and that was part of the process. The shop has received many awards.

Re: Two fresh SBCs. I’ll decide which I like best.

Oil pan bolted on. I primed the oil passages and pump with the intake manifold and rocker covers off and could see oil come up through each pushrod. I just wanted to see it.
Cleaned up an original 283/327 PS pump bracket.
Mocking up crank, fan, PS pump and alternator pulleys so they line up nicely.

Re: Two fresh SBCs. I’ll decide which I like best.

Perfect timing. Last night I was searching all over the net for a pic of one of those actually installed on the block. I have a different factory one for the same location except it once upon a time also tied in with a smog pump bracket. My pump sits 1/8 inch too far forward with that bracket which still works, but makes a bit of noise. You scored with that. I'll probably just get the Borgeson 802400 myself.
Thanks for posting.

If the catalog picture is accurate, TruckandCarShop sells a repop of the Corvette PS pump bracket I bought. The pump saddle in my pics is from TruckandCarShop too. I bought the PS pump saddle circled. My original Corvette adjustment bracket looks identical to the one circled.

Thanks, but the Borgeson unit should be arriving on the big grey and blue van next week. I'll probably post up a quick review on a new thread when I get going on it.
