What driveshaft to use? 50 GMC s10/LS swap

What drive shaft fits?
50 GMC on a s10 frame LS swapped 4l60e tranny.
I don't have the original one from the s10.

you could go junk yard but you never know if those are bent or out of balance.
I have a driveline shop nearby and had them make me one. it comes with all new universals and balanced no issues. it fits exactly how it is supposed to with my ls swap.
Since you can provide them a yoke based on your pictures of tranny they can use that and you in cheaper. I had a yoke as well saved a me a 100 right there. get everything bolted in and lined up like you want it. rear end, motor etc last thing you want is to have to modify it .

It's best as Hbc3200 said to have one made.

That sometimes isn't in the cards due either to the $$ cost or worse yet logistics for getting on built.

For having one made it looks like your best bet might be in Vancouver https://vanaxle.com/drivetrain/driveshaft-modification/ if I could trailer the truck there after it is pretty well all together with the bed on it and just about everything that adds weight and affects stance that is probably your best bet in the long run.

Otherwise, it is figure out what vehicles use the same U joints as the S-10 and the yoke for the 4L60 and figure out what length of driveshaft you need and start hunting the wrecking yards. I've done that a number of times over the years, but it takes a lot of knowing what you are looking for and what you are looking at to accomplish.

It looks like the rear U joint should be a 534G or equivalent and that makes things a lot easier swap wise as a lot of rear wheel drive GM Cars use that U joint.

77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

4L60 trans takes the same yoke as a 350 turbo. I used my old driveshaft when I switched to the LS engine...Jim

Re: What driveshaft to use? 50 GMC s10/LS swap

When I built my '62 LS I used the driveshaft that came with it. I "adjusted" it in my shop using a 4" pipe cutter and a welder. Worked amazingly well, as pipe cutters cut straight. No vibrations and sold the truck a few years later to finance my '72. I guess I'll have to hit the auto wreckers with my tape measure...

Re: What driveshaft to use? 50 GMC s10/LS swap

you can usually find one close in length, the trans yoke has been the same since the 60s and usually the 1310 u joint is the rear type. if your engine is almost touching the firewall on the pass head, you will need 52-53" which is the length of the s10 reg cab short bed. but measure to be sure, once I shortened one (longbed aluminum, 4" diameter) twice!
