My wife and I walked away from a house we really liked on a lake years ago due to HOA and covenants. To give you an idea how long ago, I asked the real estate person to fax over the covenants and when it got over 12 pages I knew without even reading it wasn't gonna be somewhere I wanted to live.
Not trying to brag. Just to make the point that I kind of bounce around and I won't be there a whole lot.

No deep pockets here. No silver spoon ever landed in my mouth. I spent my whole life living paycheck to paycheck. One step ahead of the mortgage company and an angry girlfriend. I've been flat broke more times than I can count. My life has been more messed up than a finger-painting class in Kindergarten.

But I'm still here. And I'll win this one. I don't need an attorney. I already have one on retainer for another matter. They're REALLY expensive. This is small potatoes. I've got this one. I can be a stubborn old mule if the situation calls for it.

Just poking at you. If a person is being reasonable on their property I cannot stand the nosey neighbors that want to tell you what to do. While I totally understand some issues to keep the neighborhood nice (mowing the lawn, no cars on blocks in the drive, no livestock raising, etc.) all the nit picky stuff would make me go ballistic. These small minded people get a little power and it goes right to their heads.

This right here ^^^ but I think you could just start with the standards for when the shed was built. No standards? No issue.

No offence taken. I hope that it didn't come off that way. I can take a ribbing. God knows my buddy's give me enough And then they drink all my beer.

One interesting fact. The person in charge of this grew up on the same block as me as a kid. She might remember me. That's not a good thing if I'm thinking its who I'm thinking it is. I really hope not. I kind of dumped her for another girl and she wasn't happy about that. But I don't know if it's the same person or not. But my name was mentioned and I don't know how she would know where I grew up. The exact street? I moved away 42 years ago.

But that was a long, long time ago. She must have cooled down by now. Probably not.

But that might explain a few things. Hurt feelings and burned bridges. I need to learn how to stop pissing off women. 42 years later and I still get bit in the azz.

This may not be about some dumb shed. It's about someone that see's my name and see's red.

Re: Well I did it now

This material needs no Jerry Springer.

Paul, so you weren't bragging when you mentioned owning three houses. Now I'm asking what you call it when you think you actually hurt a gal 42 years ago and she is still burning enough that when she sees your name she'd want to make your life miserable through her prowess as honcho of the HOA? Clockwork Orange?

I've upset/let down plenty of women and for whatever reason they all want to be my friend. I don't know what you call that

Tell them if they make you remove the shed you will be bringing in a 40’ high cube shipping container and parking it on your front lawn to replace it. Make sure you get one with a lot of graffiti on it.

I think that’s the least of your concerns if you have yourself, several ex wives, a current wife, an old girlfriend and Jerry Springer all in the same room.

I don't think we should drag his current wife into it. I think she suffers enough.

I think Paul's wife and this HOA chairwoman need to have a serious sit down. What do you think, Paul?

Men work in "dog years" 42 years to us was before words were written on paper and carriages still had horses . Women are a little different like that. Heck, my wife has stayed pissed at me for weeks at a time over stuff that she "dreamt" I did

For the life of me I cannot remember that old saying about a woman's scorn but I think someone here might wanna post a reminder PSA for us guys!

If your jilting her 42 years ago really is the problem, you may want to talk to Dale about opening up a Dale's Corner franchise in your shed. Have her over for a beer and maybe she'll get her knickers untwisted

Whatever the case is, Im sure you're not the only one here that's had an issue with a neighbor or HOA . Keep up with the updates. They remind me that Im not the only one and frankly remind me that I may be kinda normal

My ex did exactly the same thing. She was mad at me for something that she dreamed.

Re: Well I did it now

I am a long time hot sauce nut. I try all sorts of types and one drawer on my refrigerator is kept stocked with it, as well as unopened alternatives on deck. It was so fitting when my ex-wife tried only one and it was her instant favorite

And read the logo. That's her all over. I got in trouble many times for things I didn't do. If she got upset with me on Friday, it would be Monday before she'd get sweet again. I'd call it the 72 hour burn. After steering clear for three days and me getting used to it, I could hear the sweetness in her voice when she'd suggest a thing she wanted to do with me included. Like run up to Frederick and go spend some money! Or suggest a vacation idea. I knew things were really good, like get lucky good, when she'd say sweetly, "Want to have Margaritas tonight?". "Sure! Want one right now??" Funny thing now is she tells me she can't drink Margaritas any more. They give her heartburn. If that ain't karma right there...

Paul, there is a member on here that was having issues with his HOA. He had a couple of mid to late 40s cabs in his fenced in back yard and the HOA wanted them gone. He moved them and covered them with a camo blind. Something to consider.

I remember that. I also remember thinking thank God I don't have to deal with a HOA.. Flash forward a few months and I've got one all in my business. Who'd a thunk it.

I think a camo paint job would look cool on the shed. I'd be down for that. Maybe put some bushes around it. It is kind of plain Jane ugly right now. I was planning on sprucing it up anyway. But they don't want to give me the chance.

Maybe that's the angle I should work. Tell them that I'm fixing it up and if they still don't like it when I'm done then Ill remove it. Chances are that they won't ever check. But I was going going to do it anyway.

I do understand that they don't want a lot of junk around. I passed on buying a house once. it was a nice place but the next door neighbor had a bunch of his old POS Mercedes's parked in front of it and all over his overgrown front yard. I didn't want all of his junk in front of my house.

He must have had at least 8 of them out there and they were all junkers. So I moved on.

I’ll leave the HOA stuff to all you fellas. As to the women I heard it best described thus: Trying to figure out women is like trying to figure out what the color seven smells like.

Get rid of the shed and let the things you would want in the shed lay around the yard

Re: Well I did it now

Well I had a conversation with the HOA chick today. I was polite, but I wasn't friendly.

She isn't who I was thinking. I've never met her before. (sigh of relief).

She was adamant that I remove the shed. Not negotiable And that there had been complaints about it.

I asked who could have complained. You can't even see it?

She said "prospective buyers' did.

Prospective buyers? Really? You don't think that they're trying to nit pick the place to lower the price? Give me a break.

Then I pulled out the big guns. I told her that I was walking away from the deal. Sell it to one of those "Prospective buyer's. And I meant it. I was ready to walk. I had had enough. I have the cash and I don't see them anywhere in sight. Are you really going to let me walk over this nonsense? Because I see the door and I can walk right out of it.

Let me tell you. She back peddled so fast. She changed the subject and started talking about the town where we grew up. Then told me that she would have her "guys' check the shed out to see if it is up to standard. It turns out, she has never even seen it.

So. I may have won this battle. (I think) But the war isn't over yet. Time will tell.
