Custom Camper 10 how uncommon are they?

I recently found and purchased this emblem for my truck on eBay how uncommon was the Custom Camper 10? I've seen quite a few Custom Camper 20s and Custom Camper 30s. I've been looking off and on for quite a while and I'm not parting with it as I am building a 70 Custom Camper 10.

Cool Re: Custom Camper 10 how uncommon are they?

Apparently from the information that I have gotten on the Custom Camper trucks is this is nothing more than a nameplate but I'm sure somebody with more knowledge on the Custom Camper trucks would chime in and tell us more. But I believe the Custom Camper name plate on the fender especially in the 10 series is extremely rare and hard-to-find as most people would rather equip a three-quarter ton or 1 ton truck for a in the bed or chassis mounted camper. I only received one Fender emblem so I'm going to take this one if I can legally do so and have 2 reproduced out of Billet aluminum to exact specifications.

Just some info on the C/K10 Custom Camper Nameplate option from the GM Heritage Center https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/doc...olet-Truck.pdf

Re: Custom Camper 10 how uncommon are they?

Great discussion. Yes, rare. While selecting the Z81 option does get you just the nameplate, there is a small subset of required equipment that the truck must have in order to be eligible for the nameplate as MJN shared above - so it's a little bit of a chicken or egg sorta discussion. Note that you can have a non-Z81 truck with normal (non-camper) fender or door emblems that is equipped exactly like a truck that does have a Custom Camper nameplate - but one does have to have the minimum equipment to be able to add the Z81 RPO nameplate to the fender (or door in 72). Here's one of the few C10 Custom Campers I've seen - this one in person at Good Guys in Fort Worth a few years ago.

Billet Badges it's a company that the Squarebody Syndicate uses no, it's not cheap but when building my truck I won't settle for anything but the best. I probably won't be doing the emblems for a while because life gets in the way and whatnot but when I do those are the people I'm probably getting a hold of.

Re: Custom Camper 10 how uncommon are they?

If I remember right, custom camper on the fender is 69-70 only. This thread seems to validate that. If you look at the specimens in this thread, the spids are 69’s and the truck Joe posted is presumably a 70 based on the red hub dials. Im pretty sure I remember the custom camper placement coming up in one of Chevylands threads. I have to agree a 1/2 ton has got to be pretty uncommon.

Re: Custom Camper 10 how uncommon are they?

It's interesting that in the Chevrolet literature, even where it discusses the requirement for the C10 Custom Camper, it only shows the CustomCamper20 emblem. I guess they were too rare to make it into the GM manuals.

Re: Custom Camper 10 how uncommon are they?

This style of camper nameplate had a three-year run, 69-71. 72 was the only year for the Custom Camper script on the door (for Chevys).

Re: Custom Camper 10 how uncommon are they?

Custom Camper 10’s are pretty rare trucks. I do know where 2 of them are, one is a ‘69, and both are 2wd. I have yet to get in touch with the owners but would love to see the SPID. If I ever see an emblem in the wild (swap meet, junk yard, eBay, etc) I’d buy it in any condition just to have. Kind of like the ‘65 custom camper emblems

Re: Custom Camper 10 how uncommon are they?

I may be wrong but I thought '69 was the last year the Z81 option was available on C/10s and K/10s. I owned a very well optioned '69 K/10 with the Custom camper option for a while. That is the only one in real life I ever knew of.

Re: Custom Camper 10 how uncommon are they?

I have a '68 C10 Custom Camper with this badge so you only can tell it's a C10 from the outside by looking at the number of wheel lugs/hubcap size. It came with the front stabilizer, HD rear springs/shocks and lock-ring wheels which I guess were considered more HD than the standard one-piece steel wheels. Since it was optioned with the 327/TH400 combo, it also came with the stock 3:07 rear end.

I'm not using the lock-ring wheels anymore, but I'm wondering if anyone knows how much more capacity they were supposed to have since I don't see any capacity stamps on them.

That's why I'm getting 2 reproduced out of Billet aluminum to exact specifications and aside from that I only received one emblem and it's only NOS once. I just happened to be lucky and was looking in the right place at the right time. If you really want something specific never give up because you'll find what you're looking for eventually

Re: Custom Camper 10 how uncommon are they?

Is your heart set on billet or have you considered placing a WTB ad for a mate to your nameplate on this site? If you ever wanted to narrow down to a correct target audience, this would be the place…

I may try that first but if they are extremely hard to find billet will be my second alternative.

Even more uncommon to see a Custom Camper 10 with the original 15" 3 piece rims or the 6 lug 16.5's. As with many 3/4 ton from the era, original wheels have a way of disappearing.
