Changing tire/gear ratio?

So what are the different ways to change the tire or gear ratio in the computer?
I had BP setup my computer for 3.08 gears as I was trying to get my truck together for the power tour and didn't have time to change gears. now that I want to change to lower ones, what is the solution to changing it in the computer? My friend has hp tuners and it sounds like it will cost $100 for him to get into it, even though its been previously opened? is that correct?
1. hp tuners
2. snapon or matco computer? do they have that option?
3. dealer computer
4.???
5.???

Re: Changing tire/gear ratio?

if it was licensed on a seat of HP Tuners in the past then who ever licensed it can make the changes. If it is a different seat of HP Tuners then you will need to purchase 2 more credits ($50 each) in order for it to be reflashed. The licensees apply to the software, not the vehicle ECM.

Re: Changing tire/gear ratio?

yes I sent the computer in to bp tuning for the initial flash. they only do that if you're buying a harness.

Re: Changing tire/gear ratio?

What are you running for a speedo? I use Auto Meter and you can recalibrate the speedo to any gear changes.
Having said that the tuners/harness suppliers that I have used will recalibrate the ECM for your new gears at no charge. Just send them the ECM with new gear ratio and tire size. Also its a good time to fine tune the shift points if you are running an auto.

Re: Changing tire/gear ratio?

Just to add to this, if it is a 4l60e or 4l80e the new gear ratio must be changed this affects your shifting. Like LS said you can also tweak the shifts a little too. HP tuners has made it pretty easy they have a menu to just change the gear ratio or tire height and it does the calculations and changes for you. Yes it is 100 bucks to get into the tune even for this.
Hopefully BP would do this at no charge however they need your ECU so you are down during the shipping time etc.
