What a beautiful sight! I wish there was a way to clear-coat a truck like this, leaving it looking just the way it is, without the rust going any further!

Have fun getting her ready, bro'! Mine's a driver ... we just had 18 inches of snow here in New Jersey -- I just cleaned her off, shoveled the driveway, and took her for a spin.

Thanks for the support Alan!! We have actually talked about trying to scuff it very lightly and shoot it with clear ( and adding a dulling agent) so it can be preserved just like it is....The truck is amazing in it's original condition...

I have a buddy who owns a very nice 48 and he came over when this came home and looked it over ...He couldn't believe how unmolested it is...Even the firewall is uncut/ undamaged..Going to be fun....

Keep it the way it is, except I would update the running gear and and the interior and drive it for another 50 years !!!

Keep us posted, Crews! Don't you have to get rid of all signs of rust in order to keep it from spreading and getting worse??

I agree with solidaxel ... mine is a great driver because of all the mechanical upgrades -- makes it more road worthy AND more fun!

Yeah, I chose to resto-rod this truck as oppossed to go and spend 30K+ for a new truck that will be lucky to last 15 years, let alone 55!!!

I keep telling my kids that the reason this truck is so solid is because this was built back when they actually used METAL in the trucks!!

Actually my intention is just that...late model drivetrain, reliability, some A/C and tunes ( nothing radical- I'm almost 40!) and leave as much original character as I can...By summer I want this to be daily driver reliable..

As far as the stopping the rust, I am currently researching my options...if I can't stop it dead in it's tracks and clear it, I will just drive it a year like this ( with clear to limit it's exposure) and then I will reluctantly paint it.

Hi new to form. My dad and myself are doing a couple of restros. Dads is a 47 chev five window 1/2 ton numbers matching stock truck. Mine is a 48 five window 1/2 ton going on a modern chassie with a small block. No pics at this time to post but will have some in near futher.

Here's our 55 1st series, short step. Needs pretty much a total resto. I have already started to dismantle it. Hope to have it down to the frame this weekend, then it's going to be a slow go from there. Some rust in the cab and the bed is rough, but I'm trying to salvage as much as possible. I will post some pics of progress in a short time. Hope to be around for some time

You have to have your pictures on the web somewhere ...

1 - go to your picture on the web
2 - right-click on it and "Open Image in New Window"
3 - copy (Cntrl + C) the address in the top address bar of that new window

... then, when you click on the

button, you'll see this button above the text box:

... click on it and paste (Cntrl + V) in the address to your picture.

... when you submit your post, you'll see your picture.

Hey everyone. I am new on here and new to the world of 1947-1955 pickup trucks as well. My name is Jamie and I 23 and from Cincinnati Ohio. I have been around late 60's early 70's cars for about 10 years now and just finished a 1970 nova (after about 8 years). I needed another project so I just bought a 1954 Chevy 1/2 ton pickup. It has the 235 6 cylinder with the 3 on the tree, straight axle and a tow truck looking bed on it that the guy before me made I guess. I think I will stick with the tow truck theme and do the truck up around that. I just plan on putting new kingpins, disc brakes, power steering and a new rearend in the truck with better gears. Then maybe some new primer and some interior work. This will be my daily driver here in about 2 months if all goes well.

Guess I better show mine, too. 52 3/4 ton, bought from the father-in-law's farm estate. I've been driving her daily for the last year after wrecking my 69. Had 63,000 miles when I bought her in 96, replaced the 216 with a 235 in 2000, turned over 80,000 this year.
