FedEx said my compressor and controls were delivering yesterday but they didn't show. So today I played with wiring for the new gauges. Temp and volt gauges will be custom fit into the cluster, and the tachometer will hose clamp onto the steering column.

Jimbo, you will love your VA unit. Had mine charged Friday and took it out today to the Placerville wine country, high 90's to 100 and blew ice cold. Took no time at all to start blowing cold after starting up in a hot cab. The original AC in my truck never worked, so I can't compare to stock, but I really don't think it would be better than this.

Did you put a fan in front of the condenser, or just the regular Vintage Air setup?

Question - does it use a regular factory AC belt?

Here's the belt I used, Gates, pretty sure 58" I think which is what VA recommended, stock pulleys. Not sure what you mean about fans, I have a stock setup.

Custom voltmeter and temperature gauges are in the instrument cluster. They look good in the daytime, but I wonder how they will look at night with the lights on.

I’ve only briefly messed with my dash lights, most work but not all. From my research it maybe the circuit board that is causing some of the lights to not work. Some of my sockets work and some don’t even after changing the bulbs, knowing the bulbs worked in a different socket. I’m probably gonna order a new circuit board and see if that is the issue.

Compressor install was easy. I really appreciate the previous owner using anti-seize on the exhaust bolts. Now I am on the hunt for a shop with the crimping tools to make the AC hoses.

Can anyone tell me if the main power for the Vintage Air is safe to hook up to the battery side of the American Autowire Megafuse?

Looks really good Jimbo, you are flying along compared to how long it took me. And, yes, you can wire directly into the megafuse terminal coming from the starter. I called AAW about exactly the same thing. They also said most people doing the VA install wire the negative lead to where the negative battery cable attaches to your engine. That's what I did too, looks cleaner.

I got the AC hoses made and installed. I need a heater hose fitting for the top of the water pump and the heater hoses will be done.

As I suspected, there was no working thermostat. The spring was broken and it was stuck open. I replaced it with a new 180° thermostat.

A trip to the hardware store solved my heater hose plumbing. There was silicone RTV on the plug in the intake, so I put some on the new hose fitting too.

I finished up the last details for the Vintage Air install today. Wiring is finished, controls are programmed, fans and vents all work properly, and the compressor belt is on. Duralast part 17580 works well for the belt. (I tried parts 15580, 15585, 15570, 17570, and 17590 which all do not fit). I believe it is finally ready for the refrigerant to be charged!

I am installing a vintage air right now as well. Which hose is supposed to be vertical (ie the dent shape in the cove box)? Is it the passenger defrost or passenger side vent?
