Re: EGR Relay

If it is a 1991 C/K1500 series truck it most likely has a negative backpressure EGR system, which technically has an EGR solenoid and not a relay.

On negative backpressure EGR solenoid there is one port which is the vent and should be left open, but people find a spot they think should have a vacuum hose, so they plug the vent port. The vent port does not have barbs on it like the one that is supposed to go to the EGR valve. Leave it with nothing connected to it.

I suggest only using an OEM (Original equipment manufacturer) replacement EGR valve. These TBI truck are very picky about the EGR valve operation.

If the solenoid bleeds vacuum through it when it should be closed it can cause a poor or rough idle. If it will not open, then it can cause pinging and set a code 32.

Re: EGR Relay

You’re welcome.

With the vent plugged it can cause the EGR to be open when it should not be open.
