Question for the salt belt guys

What do people usually pay for rust free doors and beds in the salt belt? We seem to have an abundance of rust free body parts here in the northwest and my son had heard the salt belt guys pay a pretty good penny for beds and doors. Kind of thinking a couple trips a year with doors, fenders and beds might be a money making proposition. Dumb idea or maybe brilliant?

People do it and they make money. I'm not sure on exact pricing at the moment. The distance is the reason you have what they want. Either you have the expense of travel, etc. or there is a huge shipping cost the buyer has to consider added to your price.

I just sold a rust free/dent free long bed for $1000 and a decent tailgate for $500. You can find pretty decent doors for $150-$200 each. but everything is getting harder to find now.

Heavy/big parts are a pain to sell.

Shipping and or traveling can be a deal buster. It just costs too much.

I live in the desert. Plenty of rust free junk around here. I don't bother with it.

Re: Question for the salt belt guys

There is a guy I used to deal with Mike. Who's living was to gather up a bunch of doors, and beds. Then he would haul then from here to the north east around Boston where he had family. He would do trips almost every month selling them to already waiting customers. His family had a long history in automotive businesses. So he had instant access to this type of endeavor.

Beyond that I have no details.

So if you had the time, and property. You could get orders in the mid west, and deliver them on a vacation of sorts. Or stock up, and go to a larger mid west car show. Meet people, and start taking orders.

Probably a good idea for people who are retired who want to earn a few extra dollars.
