Re: My 1967 Build (Finally)

Flattened out the blower motor 'face' for looks. Getting the final touches on this box this weekend. Also added a picture of a stock box so you can see exactly what is different.

Passenger side firewall is just about all done, pretty satisfied with the end result. After / before for comparison.

Re: My 1967 Build (Finally)

Well finally back to getting things where I want them, I had to re-do the outer cowl patch, the metal was just so thin I kept blowing through. Also went through and blasted a bunch of parts, back side of inner cowl, brackets and the L shaped brackets for the rear cab.

Finishing the inner cowl, being it is now symmetrical I just copied the other side and welded in a new support bracket for the fender.

Inner cowl I had painted the day before, installed on the mock up front end to make sure nothing wild has happened, gaps look good!

Re: My 1967 Build (Finally)

Holy seam sealer Batman - but it needed it, the driver side was a cluster of patches and rough edges. Plus I have too much seam sealer on hand. This SEM 2in1 seam sealer does a great job, sticks well, can be direct to metal (I like getting a primer down first) and is smooth going down, flows well into cracks and seams.

Reattaching the cowl. Boy is it not fun filling up all those big spot weld holes. but its on, and ground down. Went through and put rust encapsulator on all the exposed areas after sanding. Next is seam sealer, and matched paint.

Re: My 1967 Build (Finally)

Tested out some of the paint match stuff I got from a local supplier and it matches pretty darn'd close. Honestly on an old truck like this its beyond close enough! Now to make it less pretty with some scotch brite.

After spraying, I made the trek to Concord (Charlotte), North Carolina and went to the Truck and Car Shop (about 4.5 hours away) to get some much needed parts and to check quality on some new door bottoms (yes, they have been retooled) and other things.

Re: My 1967 Build (Finally)

A bit of some non truck related stuff.. the reason I went to North Carolina was to see Alan Jackson in Greensboro on his farewell tour, what an amazing show. Then I made my way back to Virginia Beach on Sunday to see Willie, which was his farewell tour as well I hear. Glad I got to see Willie, I jokingly call my truck Willie because of its shade of green and the fact it smoked like no tomorrow when I got it.

Re: My 1967 Build (Finally)

Found the front of the rocker on the driver's side was pulled in on the front quite a bit, as you can see. And the inside of the rocker that joints the a-pillar was way off. Ended up cutting that front portion off and doing a lot of small adjustments. Welded it all back up...

Re: My 1967 Build (Finally)

The rear of the rocker always had this weird slant to it, so I just made a small piece to fill it. Not super straight, but this area will be covered with seam sealer. This just helps me sleep better at night.

Re: My 1967 Build (Finally)

Flipped the cab on its back, and began cleaning for the undercoating. I found that different solvents and aircraft stripper did absolutely nothing to clean it. The best piece of equipment I used was a paint and rust striping disk for a drill, it made quick, extremely dirty work of it.
