Wonderful afternoon
This morning get in the truck to head over to the truck show . Didn’t even make it out of the spot I put the brake on to put it in gear and instantly felt the peddle drop . Brake light came on fluid on the ground front and center of the truck . Rear line blew at the distribution block . Limped over to the show with just front brakes . I got the line out after a few choice words headed over to Napa to get a couple of lines. No dice they didn’t have a line to fit the master. So I ended up buying a roll of 1/4 brake line and cut the fittings off the original line .
Now the nice part the guys at Eastwood used their super cool tubing bender and double flair tool to do the line for me . I got it all back together not a permanent fix but it will get me home . The bend at the block would have been impossible to do by hand . Had a few people watching me work on the truck at my space .

Re: Wonderful afternoon
You must have been on the north side of the vendor field.

Re: Wonderful afternoon
Get a roll of that copper nickel brake line and you will be amazed what you can bend by hand. I bent some for a dually with a straight outlet brake cylinder by hand! Maybe 2" clearance to the springs. Glad ya got it running.
Forgot to mention the brake line is corrosion resistant and was designed for boat trailers. |

Re: Wonderful afternoon
Sorry you had a bad day.
At least the weather didn’t bring in pouring rain. I went to the show myself, first time for me. I do want to mention everyone there I met made me want to stay “in the hobby “ My truck needs some to keep road worthy but more to get it where I would like to see it. If anyone asks me I would say a great place to get what you’re looking for and a great place to meet fantastic group of people I hope/wish you a safe trip home |

Re: Wonderful afternoon
This reminds me that the steel brake lines on my truck are 53 years old. That's a concern that I'll address, soon. Of anything on a moving vehicle, brakes are a first priority. Now that I know about NiCopp, I'll probably go that way. I've formed stainless in the past; not fun, and unless the people making lines that I can buy are really good, I'd have reservations. Let's see what Mark gets, in terms of quality.
I've been making leak-free brake and fuel lines for decades, as needed, fwiw.

Re: Wonderful afternoon
For NiCopp just remember not to do the second bevel as hard as steel. It will leak. Simple after a couple of attempts. Its also easier to get a crooked end with a cheap flaring tool. Once again just a couple practice flares and you will be in business.

Re: Wonderful afternoon
Yes it was hot. and Mark's brake line failure is one of three brake line failure stories I know of from the show.

Re: Wonderful afternoon
One of the guys from the MD club had a line failure just before he left home. 1989 Suburban said there was a big puddle under the drivers door he just pulled it back into the garage and took his everyday driver to the show

Re: Wonderful afternoon
Anyone have success replicating the coiled part of the line? I looked at the truck and these are the only two that haven’t been replaced. So buying a kit doesn’t make sense.

Re: Wonderful afternoon
Could you get a short piece of PVC tube to bend the line around on? I've never tried it though, so I don't know if it will flatten out the line more than actually bending around the tube

Re: Wonderful afternoon
Ni-Cop line and bend it around a large socket or like suggested above, a piece of pipe, that's how I've always done it.
