Re: This weather

It's funny so many people think of August as the hottest month. July is the hottest month if you ask me. It is the month that follows the Summer Solstice, longest day of the year. It is the month with the most sun. While that stretches into August, it is also the month that changes begin. We are now at the halfway point of summer, so we get some of the July hot while we get our first peak at Sept weather. If it rains in July it's an afternoon thunderstorm. Pretty much the same weather every day. No need to watch the weather report. Then comes August and you can have an overcast day or even wake up to rain. Then there is this, the first cool off. Most noticeable at night. All through July you hardly see the night temperature dip below 70, then we get upper 50s and that feels cold. My birthday is July 27th and I've noticed, after all these years, that around my birthday is the hinge point of summer, when I start seeing and feeling that summer won't last forever. Personally, I'm glad to see this cool down. The heat was so oppressive. Hard to get anything done

Re: This weather

here in the midwest it's just plain damned hot, oh yeah, and the humidity is off the chart. My brother lives in Washington and has no AC and is seriously thinking of buying it after years of living there. Folks, say what you want to but something has changed.

Re: This weather

I always thought September was the hottest. Maybe because I had to walk to school in the heat in my new "school clothes' (jeans).

It's been hot here too. Not really too humid because I'm in the desert. But I do get some. And of course my air conditioner just broke again for the third time in two years. It seems like everytime it gets hot my A/C goes on vacation. I'm replacing that pile of junk.

I remember I sold my house years ago and had to move a small block out of a shed. It was 101 degrees that day. So that was fun. And that was in late November 1997.

Re: This weather

Our heat finally broke here . Mid 80s for the next 10 days few nights will be into the 50s . Not much in the way of rain which we do need . We’re in moderate drought but some areas are in extreme there are water restrictions in parts of my county . We’re not like the drought in the west but we’re feeling it .

Re: This weather

A/C decided to work again!!!

Don't ask me how. I didn't do anything. It just came on. It seems to have a mind of its own.

I've had nothing but trouble with the HVAC and electrical in this house and it's not that old. It was built in 2010.

About the same here. Haven't heard talk of drought, though. I think we had plenty of heavy rains from thunderstorms.

Yesterday was perfect! Clear rich blue sky, off and on breeze, dry air, and mid-80s. I sat and ate my lunch out in a yard chair in the sun. Then kept sitting there a while because the sun actually felt good!

High temps this week starting with today are 81, 74, 76, 80, 83, 84, and 86. 60s for the lows. It's supposed to rain this evening into tomorrow morning.

Re: This weather

Late February till late November, expect 8 bazillion percent humidity down here and anywhere from upper 80's to 100 mark depending on how close you are to the water. Mississippi coast is just hot and very humid. Doesn't seem to matter much what month you call it. Pray for rain. At least you won't smell as bad as just the regular body drippings. I gave up trying to figure out what is normal and extreme around here.

Re: This weather

The heat of the summer seems to have shifted later throughout my lifetime. When I was younger, the hot part started in mid July and went through August. They called it the "dog days of summer". The cool down of fall didn't start until mid September.
This all has been happening earlier. Now, the heat starts in May and the main part of the heat is in June/July with the slight cooling starting in mid August.
The last two mornings it has been in the low 60s, as opposed to 75 or so that it has been for months. It is rather oppressive to walk out the door at 6 am and run into a wall of mid to upper 70s air that is so thick, you can see it.
Hopefully, this break will hold, it has been refreshing. That's not to say summer is over, we will still have some heat, but the light is at the end of the tunnel.
For the last 6 weeks or so, it has been in the 90s, with the humidity levels above 80%. Autumn is welcome to move in anytime.

No measurable amounts of rain since my last post. Nothing to help the dry condition. Since that last post I've noticed grass has started to burn dormant. I drive over the top end of a reservoir on my way to a job I'm doing. I noticed a couple weeks ago the water level has dropped, showing shoreline that normally doesn't show. Now I see it dropped again and logs are showing. It is literally the tippy top end of the reservoir and very shallow. We had a drought one year where that area was just a stream trickling. streams were trickling around my place, too, almost were dried up

The 10-day forecast says 0% chance of rain and mid-90s here. I'm putting the top down on the Blazer tonight.

Re: This weather

A line of storms is heading our way for this evening with rain into the night. We'll see how much that brings. The reservoir looks worse since last week. Islands have formed. It won't be long, w/o rain, that will become a mud flat with a stream trickling through. It's been back up to hot, 90s. This storm will knock the humidity out and put us in the 80s starting Wed.

I always said it gets go hot and humid here long enough to make you happier about winter that lay ahead. I'll be happy to see cooler weather, that's for sure.

A large part of the SW US is under a a high heat warning. Now that I'm older, I can't take the heat. I used to work in direct sun in temps like this. I get the pre-cancerous skin lesions frozen off on a regular basis.

Perfect weather here today and thru Labor Day. Low 80's. Went for a 2 hour cruise in the vert today with a stop at the Dairy Queen. Doesn't get any better than that.
This weekend we will hit a couple local car shows.
