Poll. Metal siding is off-center. Redo or go with it?

The metal panels on the front of my new garage are off-center with the peak at midline. Should I use as is or ask the contractor to redo? If it were the back wall I wouldn't care.

interestingly, on a lot of the metal buildings i looked at on google images, the vertical siiding is off the same slight amount at the roof peak! seems like it may have to do with starting a full sheet on the edge and the lines fall where they fall.

but if it bothers you now you will never learn to live with it.

I voted no, move on. BUT just to bother your OCD, that makes the window and electrical box/vent look off center also.

A good friend of mine in the construction business told me...."don't worry about anything that's much higher than eye level"....most people will never even notice it...

I did my shop board and batton..I tried to make the vertical strips work out in certain places..huge pain, and it didnt work like I thought, it bothered me for a day or two..then I got past it, now I never think about it..

Seems like the entire front would need to be removed and re-skinned from the center out. Definitely would not be worth it to me.

Sorry but I gotta chime in cuz I'm a picky architect.

I would not be happy with that look. It's not just at the peak but also the window, the light and door jambs. That would drive me nuts. How much more effort or materials (1 sheet of metal?) would it have taken to get that all centered?

Unless you start over and figure in all the doors and the window to fit the application you are asking about , ,just moving one opening will never fit the rest for being perfectly aligned .. in this case that is ..

If you like your contractor, live with it and leave it alone. the whole front would need pulled off and redone which include some new panels.
A triangle piece, a custom sign or something like that could hide it a little better

I've lived most of my life listening to my OCD. In my mid-50's now and learning to let it go. You're not wrong, but that juice isn't always worth the squeeze. I'd let that slide and learn to look in the door and not up.

As a contractor and old man I struggle a lot with my OCD. These things drive me nuts, and that's the reason I have been staying on top of my construction project. That said, I will make lots of compromises before I get this house done.

I would have a talk with the contractor and let him know it bothers me a lot.

These things tend to go to the back burner when the next issue pops up so I have learned to let some things go.

How is that for a political answer? My hindside is sore from riding the fence.

That one point can't be adjusted without affecting every other panel from bottom to top. And looking from here, if that point is moved over a few inches then it may not fit well around doors and all things in eye level view.
Maybe the designer should foot the bill for the reskin.

Ain't my siding, but I recently built 2 gates, and there are small pieces at each side so that the boards are distributed symmetrically. Wasted a small amount of wood, but having the center stile off-center would bug the snot out of me.

Here's a pic of one of them. It doesn't look square; that's an effect of the angle I took the picture at. I'm picky enough that I can tell you that when I welded the frame for that gate, it was within 1/16" for square on the diagonals.

I've been taught to design things that way. I would have started in the center and fitted to the peak and worked my way out. As has been pointed out, some other things still won't line up. I would have positioned window(s) and such so that the vertical lines were equally spaced from them. I think it's too late for that, because some of the framing would have to change. If it were me, I'd put something at the peak to disguise the offset, at this point.

Beautiful shop. I'm very jealous. 40 years ago I would have had it redone. Nowadays with the quality of help and the amount of work to fix it, wait for materials, etc, I'd be inclined to accept it.

I could live with it, but I'd be disappointed and would probably ask the contractor in a non confrontational manner if it's really supposed to be that way. If he says "yes", calmly express your dissatisfaction to see what his response is. Ask him if there are any like that in the area for comparison.

My OCD couldn't handle it, but I'm so ridiculous about it that I would have had that conversation before it ever happened.
Enough issues like this will make you cautious, but you probably will have to live with it at this point? It would turn into a can of worms, lawyers and all.
