Feel free to post what you like. I thought to start this thread because put this off long enough, need to face painting these badges. Can't imagine how they painted the Custom/10 type badges, some elves maybe, what the heck Whatever it was the paint at the the never-ending chrome lines were close enough, not perfect.

I read lacquer paint and clean up what you have to with lacquer thinner, so I'll give it a shot. Plenty of taping too, I'll get to know the Custom badges real well The original paint looks pretty flat to me.

Anyone recommend nice 400 badges repop? One 400 has a small scratch though probably using it anyway, it's nice to have options. I'm open to an NOS 400 badge though Yeah right, was lucky to find a nice used one years ago.

Satin on the black. Or what I use for trim accent is DupliColor low gloss black engine paint.

Something like this? A syringe and some lacquer or nail polish. I haven't tried it, but it seems to be a good idea.

EDIT: I bought Trim Parts 350 emblems. They are dead ringers for the originals except for being slightly thicker. I assume the 400s would be equal quality.

I have spruced up many badges and have found that applying enough spray paint to cover the sides and recesses and trying to NOT over-cover the areas that are supposed to be shinny gets them started in the right direction. Of course, it's not possible to direct the coverage all that well, but what you can do will help...then, after the paint dries really well, use very fine steel wool and love/rub the areas that are supposed to be shinny. It takes some time and patience (and in my case, stronger cheater glasses) to just rub off the shinny areas. They turn out real nice if you take your time and pay attention to the amount of force you use to rub the paint back off. Lower pressure cuts back on the steel wool wrapping around the edges onto the sides. I do not recommend gloss paint as it will show the fine scratches of the steel wool, but flat or semi works great. If you over do the rubbing just spot spray that area, let dry, and rub some more. The steel wool'n will shine up the chrome too.

How you figure to prep these? If I were to do it today alcohol & nylon brush. I have some 99% but that might be a risk, I'd probably use the 70% & a rinse. Shame I have to paint the NOS Custom/10, I'd slap that on today but it won't match the rest.

I have a few "NOS" syringes & may give them a try. Think I'll pull the trigger on replacement 400's. Just for curious, and some day they'll be NOS too They appear very close.

I wonder how close replacement Custom/10ish badges are?

I didn't have any emblems or badges that were worth restoring so I bought new CUSTOM over the door handle emblems , Grille , fender "10's" and a chrome Chevrolet for the glove box door . Try using Bronze wool , It doesn't promote rust and pitting like steel wool will .
