Yes, my wheels fit without tubs. There's 3/4" on the inside and about 1 1/2" on the outside. The tires are 10" wide and it' roughly 12" deep from fender to bed wall

Thank you for this info. I also plan to run 255/35/20 tires and did not want to tub the bed. You just made my anxiety vanish!

Seriously you suck!!! Rubbing that in our faces! What rear axle do you have? I'm in the process of buying one and yours looks like something that I would like on my '52.

Lol, your killing me
I'm using a late 60's early 70's Ford 9" someone told me it may be out of a Grand Torino.(The 9" came with the truck and I did not know anything when I installed it to my pickup). It's really to short. It's 60" hub to hub, but I'm using 1 1/4" spacers because the rear end is not wide enough. Try to find something a little wider. I think stock width is around 65 hub to hub. This way you have the room to get a deep offset. Most wheels have a deep offset. I could not have a deep offset so I had to go with a truck wheel and I was limited for choices. I ended up getting lucky and finding what I was looking for, but with a wider rear end you will have more choices for wheels.

Re: 20" wheels in a 47-54 chevy truck

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the stock width of the rear axle on 47-54 / 60" wide from hub/mounting surface to hub/mounting surface. I seem to remember telling the guys who built my Ford 9" that it was 60".

I do know my rear mounting surface is 8 1/2" out from the frame rail. When taking measurements for wheels, I thought the 60" was a good length and placed the mounting surface right where I needed it.

According to a guy I know his is around 65" and he told me his rear end was stock length, the same length as the stock rear end that came out of his 53 chevy truck. I guess it really would not matter if you don't get wide wheels like I did. This guy got 20 x 8 wheels with 5 1/2" back spacing and he could still get his hand behind the tire inbetween the bed and the tire. I have 5" Back spacing And I needed 1" back spacing. I only got 1 1/4" because I got the kind of spacer that has the studs built into the spacer. I was told it's better to have spacer like that instead of getting longer studs, the spacer with studs built inside of them are stronger than longer studs.

It is about 60". Went through all this with my AD truck. Here's some supporting info from a couple websites:

http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/w...rements#GM_car

http://www.teufert.net/other/rear%20...dimensions.htm

I have a 74 Nova rear in mine (about 60") - basically the same as stock. I suppose if you were to use some modern wheels (like off some contemporary trucks) that have 6'" or greater backspace, a wider axle could work - depends what your program is...

Wow, guess it wouldn't be the first time I got miss info from this guy. Whatever the case I would think about what wheels and tires you plan on using with what offset and buy the rear end according to that. And also think about the width of your front end. I put a Mustang II with 5/8" shorter a-arms so again I got lucky that both fitting perfectly.

I don't want my tires to rub on the front fenders and it's hard to guess on what's going fit and not rub with this big of a wheel.

Thanks
I am looking to run the same front wheel with the same suspension combination. Please let me know if it will work and what the offset is you are using to keep it from rubbing.
If anyone else has or is running this combination I would appreciate any info.
Thanks

Look around there are not as many options for wheels with 20's and the offset that will work. Took me a while but I found them

Re: 20" wheels in a 47-54 chevy truck

Thanks for the reply, It seems like the only option is the Fuel Offroad wheels especially for the price. I also am leaning towards the Fuel Dune wheels. You say your control arms are 5/8 shorter? What mustang ll are you running? Did the 20x9 wheels work? How much room between the front tire and fender lip?

If you buy a Mustang II for your truck they are roughly the same just different companies. Myself if I bought over again I would get either a fatman or Heidts. Mine is from a company called a JW Rod Garage. Also if you get the stock a-arms you can get a bigger offset. Do lots of research before buying. I bought a tool from Summit racing for $70 that helped me measure the offset to make sure the wheel would work inside the fender.

Here is my truck with 245/45ZR18 tires on 18"x8 rims up front and 275/40ZR20 tires on20"x8.5 rims on the rear. I really like how it sits (which is all that really matters, right?)

Re: 20" wheels in a 47-54 chevy truck

That's sharp looking but I'm really looking for the pro street look with a 20 x 12 -44 offset rear with a 345/35/20 wheel. Those $500 each...ouch. The front are 20 x 9 +20 offset with a 245/35/20.
Just ordered the wheels so in about 6-8 weeks I should be able to mock it up to get the Ford 9 inch narrowed. Another 2 weeks for that too. A big waiting game.
I'll post a pic of the mock up so you can see.

s10 frame, stock s10 rearend. lowered 4/4. 20x8 4" backspace 245/45/20 and 20x9 3.5" backspace 275/45/20. they ride great, not stiff at all. they have a fair amount of road noise but its getting less the more I drive it.

Ricos54,
So, what did your backspace turn out to be?

Re: 20" wheels in a 47-54 chevy truck

I found this link the other day. It's from Art Morrison. With a 57.75" WMS and a 9.5 rim, they recommend a 5.5 backspace. With an 8 " rim they recommend a 4 inch backspace.

With a 57 WMS, they recommend 5 for 9.5 rim and 3.5 for 8 inch rim. Of course they are using Wilwood Pro-Touring spindles and Wilwood brakes. If you move up to the 13&14" brakes, more backspace is required.

anybody have a pic showing the wheels turned to lock both ways? do they rub over a bump with wheels turned? looks like they would but pics can be deceiving.

Re: 20" wheels in a 47-54 chevy truck

Joedoh's wheels set in quite a ways in the front and shouldn't have turning issues.

I'm still not a fan of the big wheel fad but he nailed it on that red truck. When you scroll to the truck your eye just sees a complete truck with not one item on the truck overpowering the whole truck. Even if he finished it out to a big car show main room feature finish as long as he didn't alter the basic look it all works.

By gum I actually have a truck with 20's that looks right, the wheels turn lock to lock without hitting and it doesn't ride too bad. Can't lay frame though.
