Looking for windshield recommendations in northern colorado

I am getting close to wrapping up my 1970 K5 and I need the windshield replaced. I have called around a few places and the shops want me to drop it off and leave it with them for a few days. I am not really comfortable with that. I would really like someone to come to me. I know a lot of guys will say to do it myself but that is something I just don't want to do. any help is appreciated. I live in Brighton Colorado.

Unhappy Re: Looking for windshield recommendations in northern colorado

You have to find a glass place with some old guys and/or specializes in hot rods. 99% of the windshields most places see are glue in (which is an option on your 70 esp if you have a high end build).
Also, I recommend bringing them a copy of the install instructions from the factory service manual. I don't have one but have seen the page posted on this site before.
I went by my old favorite glass shop the other day to find the guy had retired and sold it. When I told them what I needed the guys said wait a minute, I'll have to get that old guy to help you. There was only one guy left working there who had ever installed a rubber surround window.

It's almost as bad as trying to find someone to tune a carburetor....

Anyway, explain that the windshield has rubber around it and has to be roped in, and you want to make sure they have someone who has done it.

Re: Looking for windshield recommendations in northern colorado

Do you have a deluxe truck with the chrome windshield surround?
After having to have my windshield resealed 4 times to get it to stop leaking (Daily driver in NW Oregon)and now I am having it removed again to repair the rusting caused by a previous worker(s) gouging the paint under the seal. I think I would welcome a glass shop wanting to take their time and do it right.
I would recommend talking with any shop about the difficulties with our trucks and how they will stand behind the installation.
Good luck.
