Re: 1955 big back window named RUSTY cummins to be......

If you thought the drivers side was bad on my cab here ya go. chopped half the step the lower door post off and the rusted floor board. Unlike the drivers side i bought the floor panel because there is so much missing of this side. I did not brace it because it was way out of whack to start with will strengthen the side once i tack all the panels on. I have found for my situation (starting with an already out of square cab) it works the best.

Re: 1955 big back window named RUSTY cummins to be......

so after a long while and a change of direction im going to start posting pics again put more up of the chassis after i finish on it tonight got a complete 1988 chevy truck with cruze 350 vortec and it is the 2500 but has 6 lugs and a simi float 14bolt but has a oil cooler power steering cooler AC and such. also finished the metal work on the cab and got some front fenders and grill and a rear window for a great price. since i cannot get drop spindles for the 2500 light duty i did a frame drop so that when i air bag it it will lay on the ground it is only a 3 inch drop but it was strait forward. here are all the pics that i have now but will post the finished frame drop and more of the rest of the truck tonight. plans are air bags 4 link and am going to reuse all the stock ac and gauges while try to post more later

Re: 1955 big back window named RUSTY cummins to be......

thanks Kim its funny i actuly tryed to sell it and no one would buy it without a frame so then i started looking for a frame. rebuilt a friends camaro motor and got a free truck in great shape was a shame to cut it up and with such a great truck to start with that now im keeping it. so here are some picks of the finished frame drop i did it right before the actual bend in the frame so it looks normal its plated on all 4 sides. it was strait forward cut the frame strait and move it done how ever many inches you want to drop it then plate it. turned out great.

first one i cut reliefs in the metal to bend it

second one i got right just pounded it around the curves

this is what it sits at now with stock syspention should sit real nice and on the ground when its baged just need to 4link the rear now

Lookin' good. You've done a ton of work on that thing. Keep in mind when you do your side cowls, they don't need to be rounded.

Just wondering why all the weld beads across the plating?

Chevette:
that looks awsome, ya thats what i figured when i first started why does the cowl vent need to be rounded it will never be seen plus the replacment panel cost a lot. I deleted the vents all together so the vent just drains down the side of the flat panels i made but your looks super nice great work.

Mknittle

thats the first one i did i cut them a little to bend them due to the bends in the frame and the twist. I didnt like how it looked so on the last one i did i figure out how to just weld and hammer it to bend it into shape. I usauly i dont believe in grinding my welds just to make it look good but might on that side

Re: 1955 big back window named RUSTY cummins to be......

finished the drop this is how it sits with no other modifications yet and it is 7 inches off the ground from the bottom of the rockers and that is with the rear at stock. here are some pics

here is how much i had to cut out of the firewall to make it fit. Didnt have to cut as much but sinse im replacing it in the way described in the next picture it works.
this is what it is getting replaced with the stock firewall from the 90 it hs the stock 90 pedal mounts gas pedal and steering colum mounts and they lined up perfect also all the ac mounts are on the firewall now so it should work out great. im going to size it up weld it to the cab from the inside then cut it too size from th outside and blend it all together. Also am going to need to
make a new tunnel

also took the dash out to make this all easer and to smooth out the dash but more to come. Sorry for the large picture lately but my computer is being super slow or Photo bucket

Found it! I've been looking for this thing. What made you change your mind about putting the cab onto your 91.5 W250?

Re: 1955 big back window named RUSTY cummins to be......

Luther
i changed my mind because i went to sell it and no one would buy just the body then i got a smoking deal (rebuilt a 350 for it) on a low mileage truck that i couldn't pass up and now i cant get rid of it and it keeps me up at night thinking of what i need to do next. still have my cummins and have a 59 Apache short fleet side at my dads for some day. I got selected for Special Forces so i am moving to fort Bragg soon to start my training and want to be rocking this.its going to be sweet AC cruse control fule injection air bags

Kabwe

thanks i cant match your skills but work hard almost done with the new firewall will post some pics this weekend. in hindsight i shouldn't have z'ed the frame due to all the changes that made but i will be happy about it when its all done. post more latter thanks for the kind words
