Adjusting hood?

Greetings,

I replaced the grill and radiator support on my 69 (don't ask why), so I had to pull the hood and the passenger fender. Everything went well. I am a British car/motorcycle guy and usually only have 4 hood bolts to contend with. I have all 10 bolts loose and I have to believe there is simple trick to getting it right. As usual it was pretty close right from the start, I should've stopped, but I know it can be better. Thanks for all replies. Phil

Re: Adjusting hood?

I saw on here once to loosen the bolts, lift the hood to the max and re-tighten the bolts while holding the hood full open. Dam if it didn't work. I'm no body man. Someone smarter than me will chime in. Good luck.

Re: Adjusting hood?

I think the front hinge to fender hole is round and the rear slotted. If the rear of the hood is hight, rotate the rear of the hinge down. This matches w/ what 4oldcars said.
The hood bolts allow for front to rear adjustment.

Re: Adjusting hood?

I have it pretty close, but I tried the lifting hood all the way up and setting the hinge bolts, but it was still in a slight bind, so I loosened the bolts and raised each side about an 1/8". It closes good, but I'm about an 1/8" off on the right front. I have the driver side looking great, maybe I just won't look at the other side, nah, I'll get it, this is too much fun to stop now. Thanks for the replies.

If the gap with the cowl is square, the hood is at the same level as the cowl and you have a straight and proper gap with the left fender, then loosen the right fender to core support bolts and try to move the front of the fender in the direction to achieve the desired alignment.

Re: Adjusting hood?

firstowner69, I thought about that but the gap between the door and fender might be too tight then. I'm pretty sure I can get it with the 4 hood bolts. Thanks

Re: Adjusting hood?

Glad I found this, I just painted my 68 and the hood was giving me fits, at one point I even had a ratchet strap hooked to it trying to bend the hinge to get it straight. Couldn't believe how well this worked. Thanks!
