Re: Who has used CLR on OG patina? Lets see the before and after pictures!

I just used dawn dish soap and some scotch brite. I did not want to remove any "rust" I just wanted to remove some oxidation from the paint... I did not put any kind of wax or protection on the paint after... The way i look at it, it's taken 62 year for the paint to look like this and i don't think it's going to get much worse over the next 20-30 years.. but i park mine in the garage now anyways....

CLR with a scotchbrite pad. Then buffed and waxed.

I used CLR with a green Scotch Bright Pad, followed up with a clay bar and Mothers Instant Detailer for lubrication. Next up to to buff out and wax.

One of my favorite trucks on the board. That really made a huge difference!

Thanks car was a local car with 33,000 original miles. One repaint. 283 with 3 on the tree. Traded the Iroc wheels for a set of old Cragers. Sold the car it went to the Raleigh NC area.

I wiped our old blue down with Penetrol today.
Came out shinier than I thought. Looks good though probably needs a second coat.

Before and after of the firewall on our '72 C20. Used CLR full strength with a green scotch brite. Not polished or waxed yet.

This is about what my paint currently looks like and seeing your post makes me want to do this with mine.
How much time would you say you had in it to do the whole truck? How much CLR and how many pads did you go through?

Very nice job.

Re: Who has used CLR on OG patina? Lets see the before and after pictures!

Hi AZBuckHunter, it was not too bad. I probably spent the better part of a day on the CLR. I mixed it 50/50 in a spray bottle, sprayed a section 2 x 2 and rubbed it out, then moved on. I think I used around 3-4 green scotch bright pads on the entire truck. I probably have another day into the clay bar and detailing spray. I followed the same basic process with it as well. I am not sure there was much benefit in the clay bar, but it seemed to smooth it out some. Happy rubbing!

Pictures are always cool.
Before and after cleaning rust off patina 20 minutes with 100% CLR and a green scotchbrite or 3M scouring pad whatever you call it.

Re: Who has used CLR on OG patina? Lets see the before and after pictures!

No surface rust as it was repainted which no doubt saved the original paint . Slowly getting her back . Sand cut and buff is all I’ve done on her

Picture of the bed is my 72 just used Fluid Film on it came out nice and now it’s somewhat protected from the elements
