Finally Got to it...

In 1988 just after high school I went to work for a local garage/scrap yard. My first walk in the scrap yard is where I laid eyes on what I thought was a perfect project. Well a few life changes and a couple of kids the truck always stayed. Last summer I decided to bring all the parts I had collected over the years into one place. I started out with a ’67 C10 short box. Twenty years of Canadian salt drenching winters had taken its toll on the Oshawa built truck. Not much was savable but I couldn’t give up on a dream.
Here's what I ended up with...

It turned into more of a '68 4x4 with some updates.

The guys went to work on smoothing out the body and removing all the original paint from the cab.

Re: Finally Got to it...

I wanted it to stand out when I picked the color but not be a cookie cutter. I went with a Skoda paint code, 6225. In late September the body shop called me. He said, we got the interior painted if you wanna take it and put the drivetrain back in, you can take it home. He then laughed and says "I hope you like yellow".

I went to work pulling it apart again.......

Re: Finally Got to it...

If everybody was gonna see this truck, I needed something for them to look at when I opened the hood. Under the bench was just the thing......

We had some issues that needed to worked out. The search button made the answers easy to find.
Had to change the oil pan and pick up tube. That made clearance so it would sit on the small block mounts. The next problem....It sat to far forward. Some measuring and redrilling of the bolt holes and the motor/trans/T-case were moved back 2.5". (pic was before I moved the engine back)

Re: Finally Got to it...

Having strayed from a fleet side, 2wd, 6cyl, 3 on the tree. I made another change. The brake pedals always looked to small in the auto's. I couldn't resist a factory leather wrap steering wheel for $10. at the local pick and save.

Re: Finally Got to it...

I welded a larger pedal from a '79 onto the arm then heated and bent it to where I wanted it. Rubber/chrome came out of a caddy. It seems to match up well with the new stock pedal.

Re: Finally Got to it...

The flower heads are black rather than silver like the originals but there's a lot that's not original.

Re: Finally Got to it...

More importantly, did you have to let air out of the tires to get it out of that garage?? Great looking truck.
