283 rollover

So about 10 or 15 years ago I bought this 283 and foolishly didn't try to turn it over. I have kept oil in the cylinders and turned it over a couple times a year. It was always tucked back in a corner so didn't really turn it much, just enough to keep it from setting up.Long story short dug it out and started messing with it. Thing is I can turn it over by hand without a whole lot of resistance. Plugs are in. Am I wasting my time on this motor? Low compression? Any thoughts? Thanks and Happy new year!

A compression test will tell you all you need to know before you begin.

Re: 283 rollover

Yeah, I'll do that. Guess I was just looking for someone to tell me it wasn't that bad.

Re: 283 rollover

Run it! Spray some transmission fluid in it and turn it over.

Re: 283 rollover

Valves are likely stuck in guides. Just pop the valve covers off and spin it by and and see what's going on with the rocker/pushrods and valves.
