Long Tube Headers Installed

I have used this forum countless times researching parts and tips while working on my truck. Thought I would pay it forward and help anyone out there looking to install long tubes on a SBC lowered truck. Pictures always help so I included a bunch of them.

After all my research I decided on Doug's Tri-Y Headers, PN: D371Y, $663 at Summit. Shipping was fast and parts arrived very well packaged & undamaged.

Passenger Side - Very easy install. Plenty of room to spare. Don't have a starter yet but planning on a mini type starter and should go in without issue. I have Dart Iron Eagle Platinum heads with angled spark plugs and there is no fitment issues.

Driver's Side - Header fit but 2 of the tubes were right up against the frame rail. Used a dremmel tool and removed approximately 1/8" of material. Definitely a tighter fit but I think it's going to work out fine. No issues with spark plug clearance on this side either.

I understand Doug's Headers is the original Doug Thorley company and changed names after a divorce. From what I can tell, his products are excellent quality.

Hope this information helps someone out there looking to do something similar.

Re: Long Tube Headers Installed

Those look great! Can you show how low they hang down from the frame?

Plenty of clearance and the reason I chose these. I have 5.5" of static drop in the front although truck is not at the finished ride weight yet.

Re: Long Tube Headers Installed

What about the clearance on the driver side lower control arm to header pipe? If you can fit more than a quarter in there, I think I see these headers in my future! Thanks for the pics, they look great!
