Re: 69 Short Step

FINALLY!! Some progress. We got the 68 LWB in the shop ready for teardown. Just had to paint the 69 SWB frame first and here is some pics of my Dad and I's progress! Enjoy.

The 69 SWB frame stripped, sanded and prepped with the cleaners from POR-15's 3 step process.

Puttin the first coat on!

Oooh shiney...

Now time to get the 68 in the shop get it blown apart so we can put the cab and front clip of it on the 69 frame

LETS TEAR 'ER DOWN!

EGR Valve gasket

More to come, we are tearing into it more today!

Re: 69 Short Step

Got the longbed 68 in the garage ready to pull the cab off the frame. We will have the truck painted on a rolling chassis by the end of the year.

Pulled the rocker off

And it was rough so my Dad will POR-15 the metal after sanding it down, then lay some fiberglass and let it set up good before we re-attach the rocker

Got the marker lights welded up and now my Dad is grinding away making the metal nice n smooth.

Love the original key!

Tree saver strap + logging chain + 2 TON chain hoist and the cab comes off the frame

It is floating!

On the jackstands!

Yea I know it ain't level, we have 2 jackstands that are the same and the other two don't match

And I bought my Dad some longtubes, we are gonna make this small block sing. Fast n Loud

Re: 69 Short Step

Subscribing now, frame looks good in the por15, I have mine stripped down just haven't had the time to coat it yet. You will be impressed with that por15 and fiberglass combo. I was skeptical, but my 78 had a couple 50 cent piece size holes in the floorboard I found unexpectedly while replacing the vinyl floor. I wasn't ready to weld patch panels in or anything of that sort, so I por15'd the floors and laid down two layers of fiberglass and coated over it again. It dried very hard and seemed durable.

Yea it sets up harder than a rock! My Dad did the cab corner with the combo as well.

And update with no pics as of yet. My Dad and I got the front cross-member on the frame and bolted down, power steering pump is on the frame, A-Arms are goin on the crossmember soon, and Wednesday Dad and I are working more on the truck, we will be putting the rearend under the truck! Trailing arms are goin in, the lowered coils are goin in (which by the way are just some stock Rear Jeep Wrangler Coils), and soon after that we will have the frontend together and have a rolling chassis!

Re: 69 Short Step

I am lovin my O'Reillys discount more n more!!

I got the front discs, ceramic pads, calipers, inner and outer bearings, and a quart of POR-15 for $120
PARTS!!!!!

In the past week we have gotten the front crossmember bolted in, and power steering pump as well and today we put the rear end under the frame and what a pain in the "you know what"! The U-Bolts just didn't want to line up so we drove the driver side in with a BFH and messed up the ends of the threads on one side, so my Dad with all the patients in the world layed on the ground with a file and repaired my screw up Tomorrow weather permitting we will POR-15 the front crossmember, A-Arms, and spindles.

Getting the U-Bolt to line up takes some patients! Also a BFH helps...

The back is on the ground!!

Re: 69 Short Step

Here are more pics, trying to decipher what this trans actually came from, I have a serial # and some other number/letter combo 2HZU7, whatever that means...

And this is about where we are going with the stepper as far as paint goes, flat red with white grille and roof
Won't be this low yet...

Re: 69 Short Step

Can you say...

PROGRESS!! We got the frame off barrels and on the tires! Springs are cut up front, two coils, and the rear springs came from the rear of a TJ Wrangler stock springs. Its already got a rake on it! Can't wait.

And Dad n I went to my work today (O'Reilly Auto Parts) and got a gallon of Nasons paint and all the fixins and some fiberglass for about $350. My pop has a friend who has a paint booth and will spray our truck for a minimal fee. We changed our minds on the paint... again. We are now going with 2010 Camaro Inferno Orange.

Man that 68 LB is/was clean! I like the flat red and also the Camaro Inferno Orange. Both great choices. Do you have a name so I dont have to call you Beelte? What does the pan look like on the trans? kinda looks like from the bell that it is a BOP pattern (hole at the top).

Re: 69 Short Step

Jason is my name. The only thing we used in the 68 was the cab and frontclip. The bed will either be sold with the frame or we will find a halfway decent cab n build a LWB. Dunno on that. We do know the 71 LWB is for sale at this point for $500. Is there a pan on the manual trans? I will take a look later. I decoded the serial # on the case and it came up as a NV3500. Row row row my own gears

Re: 69 Short Step

There really isn't a way to measure it. Maybe find out what the stock ride height is of a short step and then I will measure ours after everything is on it. All I know is, it's gonna be low!

So we got the rear drum brake assembled and ran the brake lines, we are looking for the hardline with the "T" on it so we can finish running brake lines. We also mocked up the frontend just to get a rough idea of what it will look like here soon...

RALPH Powered!

Wait til we get the engine in!

Did some bondo work, cannot get the warp outta the fender with all the body hammers in the world.
