Yea that's the plan, but I've dumped too much money into this beast already.
I'm not fixing it until it breaks. Plus, routing a new pipe around the mechanical clutch linkage is going to be a challenge.

Re: Project: Nightmare

The next issue was the sway bar. The one I had was from Early Classic and it was made to bolt to the stock control arms. It wasn't going to work on the new arms. I called Choppin' Block and the guy happened to have a Porter Built sway bar that he said would work, so I bought it at a discount. Once I got it, I realized it just barely worked. I had to install it upside down for it to line up the best, and when I cut the wheel all the way, the tires rub on it.

If anyone knows of a better bar out there, please reply. The measurement between the two bolt holes for the end links is 44 inches.

Re: Project: Nightmare

Finally got it back on the road. I'm pretty happy with the ride, definitely a big improvement over coil springs. The time and the work to get to this point was insane though, I racked my brain trying to engineer the setup to get everything to work together, and I was literally watching the seasons change as I waited for parts, so be prepared for this kind of BS if you want to build your own air ride system. To put it in perspective, I think my engine build was easier.

I still have some air leaks around the tank and valves, I'll be posting about that soon.

Re: Project: Nightmare

I came up with an idea to correct the front shocks. These shocks were on it before I did the air ride. They just barely worked, too short, binding against the frame, causing them to leak. I needed to make room for longer shocks.

Re: Project: Nightmare

I couldn't get to the old shock bolts on the inside of the frame, so I just cut them off for now. I made some measurements and realized I could just cut out some of the inner fender for longer shocks. Turns out, stock rear shocks work. I found a piece of square tubing at Lowe's and drilled out the frame.

Re: Project: Nightmare

It's pretty simply and crude, but it works, that's what matters. I left some length on the square stock for when it comes time to lower it more.

For reference, Here's a shot of it aired up all the way...

Re: Project: Nightmare

Just wondering, am I the only one on this entire forum with Choppin' Block Control Arms?
I've had zero feedback about them, and I can't find anything on google...

Re: Project: Nightmare

It's been awhile since I posted anything, the weather's been too lousy to do any driving, so the truck's been sitting and waiting. The new garage is coming in handy for a lot of things.

I fixed some air leaks around my valves and changed the configuration at the same time to simplify and save space in the bed. This is was my initial setup:

Re: Project: Nightmare

And here's the new setup. I built a box with pressure-treated to keep the weather off it.

Re: Project: Nightmare

I had to keep it outside for a bit while they wired up the garage. Can't wait for a nice day to take it out on the roads, it looks like it wants to be driven.

Thanks, I want to slam it all the way to the ground eventually. I'm going to have to make some serious changes to do that though. More work coming soon!

I hate the snow. 400 hp and bald tires, this thing is useless in the winter.
As soon as the snow is off the roads, I'm going to burn rubber.

Lol I know how that is. My field is a muddy mess. Can't even move my truck. Wait till summer to drive it and I'll be doing the same thing. I got a new pair of drag radials and a pair of slicks I'd like to burn lol

Re: Project: Nightmare

haven't gotten to that point yet unfortunately. Hopefully this year will bring a ton of parts to put my dad's old truck back together the right way and not with job weld and coat hangers. Lol.
